You can challenge a red, but as it technically was a red(even if it was ridiculously soft), we had zero chance of it being rescinded, so we didn't bother.
Interesting that Spurs 3 away wins this season have all been against 10 men. Obviously a worthwhile tactic to work a player over until he reacts, then dive so the ref buys it. Do you think Poccetino has them practice it?
Gaston should have known better, doesn't matter how wound up you get, you don't kick out. It was a harsh red for sure but he gave the officials a decision to make so only has himself to blame.
I'll also mention it again in this thread, Gaston should have gone after 20 minutes, he bitch slapped Vertonghen when both teams crowded the ref in the first half. Did nobody else really see it? Soft again but had any of the officials seen it he would definitely have walked.
I would be wound up if every time I got the ball I was taken out and the ref did **** all about it. He was fouled then Vertogen went down on him,so he slapped his arse,he never even kicked him
My point is he shouldn't even give the lino room to make a wrong decision, as well as wishing that refs and linos could use common sense like they did 20 years ago. Vertonghen was culpable too, obviously picked on the right player and got a result
Why? It never happened, even though it probably should have. Therefore it had no bearing on the game.
No we are not going to mention Dior's tackle on Brady which should of resulted in a straight red instead of the yellow he got either.
My point, which i thought was quite clear, is that it's a bit shortsighted to lambast the ref for penalising us by sending off a player when he wouldnt do the same for Man Utd or Chelsea, but then he didnt send off another player of ours who clearly should have been.
Unfortunately there didn't have to be much contact or intended violence - a bit like Gaston putting his hand on sVertonghen's face rather than a punch. Technically a sending off offence. Thought at the time it was a sending off - unfortunately. There should be more room for interpretation by a 4th official but that's a whole other debate.
This incident occurred around the 30 min mark after Huddlestone was penalised for a tackle on Lamela. TV footage I have from a live coverage of the match shows Vertonghen and Ramirez approaching one another with Vertonghen with his arm raised and Ramirez clenching his fist then a switch in camera to a back view shows nothing really. The ref was only a metre or so away. This obviously lit the fuse for the later send off incident.
