With winter already here in Atlantic Canada, and another 25 cm of snow coming tonight, I was very fortunate to secure a set of four almost new 225/60R18 Firestone Winterforce tires for just $100. These are valued at $1000 installed and came off another 300 AWD with the 5.7 Hemi engine where the owner had sold the vehicle and was left with the extra set of tires. I also had a 4 wheel alignment that has staraightened up my steering wheel to a proper 9 o'clock/3 o'clock orientation.

After our last 25cm snowstorm I was really pleased with the handling of the 300 AWD in road conditions before the ploughs had been out. A huge improvement over the all season tires I used last winter, where the driving was a bit white knuckle at times. It's not just the tread pattern of these winter tires to handle snow/ice conditions, the rubber is a softer compound that doesn't harden in sub zero conditions, like all seasons do, so traction & braking distance on a dry road is also much improved.

Since I bought the 300 AWD for $2500 in March 2013 with 200,000 KM on odometer I have replaced both front outer tie-rod ends ($150 jobs) and really should should have done the alignment sooner as I only got 27,000 KM out of the new set of of Firestone all season tires that the vehicle came with. Last summer on vacation I was getting some front end brake noise and had to replace the brake pads, rotors were slightly scored, but the parts were not available in a small community, so I just went with the pads. A very friendly young mechanic at a small garage cleaned up everything, lubed the calipers and the whole job was only $100 (brake jobs can sometimes turn into financial horror stories as some unscrupulous mechanics try to change everything). This guy also only charged 30 min labour, which in reality was actually more. This guy understood English, but only spoke French, so was good practice for me in communicating everything - he stripped the brakes down with me in atendance and explained everything he was doing - some mechanics will not allow customers in the garage with them. Big difference now in braking capability driving a quite heavy vehicle.

Fair enough Where.....but you have to accept x factor for what it is, entertainment...however, I do like to see very mediocre people singing mediocre songs get their reality check....now that's entertaining!
Would never listen to anything like that away from the show!!!!!

Killy, I love to hear of a bloke getting a bargain of a motor ($2.5k) and getting good service out of her with not too much bother. There's great second hand cars out there if you look around a bit. Still has a ways to go to compete with your old Corolla wagon though, eh?!!

Firestones are good quality. In fact, if it wasn't for Firestones I wouldn't exist.

(No, I didn't avoid a crash using them. My folks met each other working in Firestones on the Great West Road :emoticon-0102-bigsm)

I'm with Col on this though will take it further stating it to be a threat to British culture. We have had 50 years of great British music from Beatles to Blur, with Bowie and Bolan inbetween and thats just then B's, being superseeded by a bunch of karaoke singing Simon Cowell Zombies. It must be stopped and stopped now before we turn into America and breath.
