It was a sane response from BR, there is no real benefit to saying he's looking at buying a) it makes him look desperate b) it undermines players' confidence c) it will hike up prices for us in Jan if clubs know we are desperate I wouldn't read into it, we WILL be buying and selling players in Jan.
well i don't agree. I find the way he has said this make him look stupid. there are ways and means of skirting this stuff without looking weak. for example: Can say: We are always looking to improve but thats normal... or if a player who fits our strategy is available we will try to get him same as always... etc etc... if you lean on strategy and everything is normal, nothing to see here then all that can be thrown in your face is balotelli... which is indefensible. However he's put half the fans backs up by saying he's buying no-one.
Based on the quotes provided, all Rodgers said is that its not something he's looking at. Presumably the transfer committee are looking at it, giving that that's their job? Although to be honest, who believes anything Rodgers says at press conferences anyway? That's not to say I think we will buy, especially after RHC's mate said that there won't be any more, or that we won't; I just wouldn't read too much into one comment.
My problem with Rodgers is not what he says, its the fact he says it at all. Since he arrived ive never heard so much coming from the mouth of a Liverpool manager before. We used to do our business quietly. Now we seem to shout about who we are going to sign months before the window opens only to see that target head to Spurs, Chelsea and probably this season Manure (Shaquiri).
The likely scenario is that the headline in Jan will only be the part in bold: "Liverpool are ready to sign Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech, 32, Porto striker Jackson Martinez, 28, and Norwich winger Nathan Redmond, 20, in a £27m triple deal in the January transfer window. (Metro)"
I'd say the sane answer is either: 1 - refuse to discuss it 2 - Say that January is over a month away and that his focus is purely on the next match
Article should be: Rodgers did not come out and announce he is desperate for a striker with at least a month of fixtures before that could even happen and guaranteeing an extra few million price hike for any purchases which would then be used against him further
If someone asks if he would be looking to strengthen his current squad in January the answer is no, not to refuse to comment which would mean yes because we ae ****ed to any journalist
Oh yeah I can see how you could easily conclude that "is not something I am looking at", equates to that......
He can't have any more signings, as long as he is in that limbo status: expecting a lot of promised things to come from his summer signings. He knows this. He's not that daft. He's expecting Markovic, Can, Balotelli, Lallana, Lovren to produce several folds more than they are. He is asking FSG for patience on this.
I forgot Lambert, actually, however I'm painfully aware there may not be any folds left in that foil.
Do you really think nobody in the football world has noticed your striker problems? It matters not what Brendan says, the second he bids on a striker the price will go up. I had to stop typing there to laugh, he needs a defence and keeper as well
Rodgers as also said we only need one or two in each of the three summers he's been with us and that we wouldn't sign anyone in January 2013 before getting Danny and Phil
