I think our owner has his manager is his pocket so even if we buy a dud he can't just disregard him. I think we have signed more good players than you have but we have had some poor ones and Ashley has forced the hand of Pardew by not giving him much option but to play them. As a result players like Perch, Best, Williamson, Obertan, Gouffran, Elliott, etc haven't been allowed to just fail then go away like some of yours. They were forced to keep playing against the will of fans/manager/the players themselves until they eventually put in at least some good performances. There doesn't seem to be any footballing logic to Ashley but he does simply refuse to waste any money. "I don't care if he's lost an eye, a leg and 11 games on the bounce we paid £5m for him so he has to play at least 15 games for us this season".
So many decent players want a crack at the Premier League, I think there's someone out there for everyone. Problem is we want good overseas players, as average ones do English football no good in long term.
Here's the sticking point, if he turns out good at another club you're gonna get "I told you so" lads giving it all that, saying they were right. The way it looks, he's either peaked below his current level or he needs to move to progress, the chances of him turning out the goods for you lot now are minute. Once that lad has his sights set on a move, in his mind he owes you nothing and he's just running down the clock... that attitude never translates into good players. There's a chance he'll do a hell of a lot better at his next club and you need to be prepared for that, what matters is he's never really earned his wage for you lot apart from maybe one month last season and that's got **** all to do with him 'not being given a chance', you get your chance on the training ground, where most kids who turn out good, take their chances.
Replace him well all of that becomes irrelevant. It's a bad transfer policy which has led to Conner even being at the club in the first place. If we can replace him with a better player, which can't be hard, all will be fine. Told you so boys won't wash with me. Anyone with a brain will judge players how they play for us not somebody else, other teams play different systems, have different players to complement. There simply isn't a decent 'told you so' argument on how he performs for another club unless of course the 'told you so' boys expected us to build a team around Connor which, frankly, would be a laughable proposal. I remember the 'told you so' boys were making themselves heard as we sold Sess. They never got a chance to say I told you so as he's continued to be average and inconsistant at WBA. We have the odd 'told you so' boy pop up when fraizer scores his one goal every 7 or 8 games but it doesn't wash with me.
Unless we can break fast and he can use his speed and instinct, I doubt he'll ever blossom here. If you look at his goals at the end of last season, especially at Man City, they were all predatory, instinct, type goals. His touch isn't good enough (at the moment) to be part of "build-up" type goals, so can we accommodate him? Like to think we can, but if we can generate attacking options at speed most decent strikers will score. A conundrum...
Has he even had a good game for Hull? His claim to fame was attempting to end young Januzaj's career and being headbutted off Pardew. Coward with no class, I hope he plays against us on Saturday, I wouldn't bat an eyelid if one of our players ended his career with a nasty tackle.
he got 50% right then with pardew ,easy to forget your CLUBS hero tackle that DID end HÃ¥land's football days .
Elmo is doing alright ain't he? Meyler on the other hand is barely getting a kick for Hull at the moment and the fans don't sound too happy with his performances.
Keep smiling be happy could be worse ,we could have signed ballotelli for 16 million ,after all he has scored A (1) goal and is on double or more wages.
Wickham's problem is that he is not putting himself in the shop window for either a better contract or bigger club in the knowledge that he will get a fat pay packet either way. Get a feeling he has made his money here and will take a drop in wages to be a big fish in a small pond much the same as Ipswich.
Another Craig Gordon, overpriced luxuries who walk away made for life, its tough out there, unless you are so lucky.
When you bought him it was due to undoubted potential. He is yet to live up to that except for in glimpses and it is easy to say it was a bad purchase but when you buy potential you take that risk. Truth of the matter is that for most premiership clubs the only way of getting a quality player in their mid-20's is to develop them or to look to foreign markets outside the big leagues - both of these options come with risks and no guarantee. I like the idea of investing in young English players and hope it doesn't deter Short from putting forward money for long term investments in future as some of the recent transfer dealings implemented by the club have looked to have a touch of "short-term fix" about them. Some exceptions of course (I really liked the look of Van Aarnholt)
He was signed by a manager who'd lost his identity in how he wanted his team to play, hence most signings he made around that time were bad signings. Elmo 2m, Wickham 8m, Ji Dong Won 2m, Gardner 6m, David Vaughan. Then there was 5m on O'Shea. It was a pretty poor window to say the least.
I'm not convinced you'd have been better off without O'Shea and £2m for Elmo isn't a shocker but £6m for Gardner... ouch. How is Ji doing nowadays? Didn't he go to a decent team in Germany where they rate him or am I dreaming that?
