Btw, the moving thing is something interesting as that happens here a lot. I follow the NBA heavily and mainly the Memphis Grizzlies ( where I am from). However, we did not originally have the team until 1998 I believe. It was in Vancouver. The OKC thunder in the NBA were formerly the Seattle Supersonics. Indianapolis Colts used to be the Baltimore Colts. LA Dodgers were the Brooklyn Dodgers. It happens quite a lot here and the fans normally follow the team but you lose a bit of that connection naturally.
And even Kirby was still too far for some die-hard blues. It's hard to explain but for me it's a question of "does your club have soul and if so what gives it that soul?" As for the local players thing G it really isn't that. I grew up in an era when we had not many more English players than we do now. We were full of Jocks and Paddy's really It's about the club being part of my city...and my city being a part of the club.
Fair enough. I do understand what you mean though, I always look for the Stags results and although they aren't my favourtie team, I certainly want to see them do well. I'd love to see them in the PL but that's just never going to happen. They're being over ambitious aiming for the Championship, they're struggling in L2 at the minute
Ive never had my commitment tested ... I think it was the Irish link that got me supporting liverpool. From lawrenson and beglin(when I started supporting) to whelan houghton and staunton up to babb mcateer and mark kennedy lol. That irish link has dwindled but my commitment hasnt ...
Rodgers is norn iron , although he is a believer of the good catholic god I was talking about players though tbf.
I understand what you mean about the soul. The spirit of every player that ever played for us and every supporter that ever sat in the ground is inside Anfield and always will be and were the club to move to Stanley Park even, that collective spirit would be lost. As I see it, any move from the present location, within the city or not, would be losing Anfield as we know it. So, in Liverpool or out of Liverpool, my support will follow.
Note the use of small 'c' for catholic .... meaning indiscriminate, diverse, all-encompassing Different word altogether.
Get over the religion stuff guise ... protestant god = wrong un catholic god = right one But Liverpool fc is my religion and Anfield is my Church
