This I am 6'1, 16 stone and quite capable of handling myself...I can also run 100m in less than 15 secs and a mile in 8 minutes and have always found this, combined with a pair of trainers, far more useful for avoiding fights, hence my not having one since 3rd year secondary
I've done lots of Martial arts myself, but undoubtedly boxing is THE best for getting your punching technique right. Getting a jab takes time and practice. Technique comes first then speed and power. Street fighting is about who wants it more.
I've only ever had to do it twice, and have a 100% record of avoidance...both sprints...one of which was onto a bus admittedly
Working! I is done for the moment now so going to have a **** and then to the pub for dair of the hog
I'm hard as **** me. However, if faced with two or more opponents I would probably run as fast as I can or look for a weapon to even things up.
Each discipline is different. Martial arts won't help you very much on the cobbles against a good street fighter. Boxing is good but again, a good street fighter will fancy his chances against a boxer on the street. My old Dad boxed at welterweight, I think. He is only 5 foot 8. But, he was the very best on the cobbles in his day, which was long ago. Anyway, long ago, he got into an argument with Des Cox, a British Heavyweight who was lined up to fight Joe Bigner for the European title. They were at a party and stepped outside. It was over in a matter of minutes. In the ring and out of the ring are two very different things. When there are no rules then rules mean nothing.
Size is everything in a fight. If you are bigger and heavier you will win almost every time. Unless you are a total pussy or don't know what the **** you are doing. The best way to counter it is to fight dirty. How prepared are you to win that fight? Go for kness, throats, eyes and balls. Gouge and bite. Otherwise the bigger guy will flatten you. Life is not like the movies.
i practiced jeet kune do for years even though its more a philosophy than a martial art and would agree with what most folk have said, but would add that if you put 2 street fighters together, one that trained in martial arts and one that hadn't i would stick money on the one that had winning doesn't matter if its in the street or in the sporting arena whoever can handle the adrenaline dump and channel it best will come out on top.
