So I made a deal with someone that I'd watch firefly if they watched Glee, but having looked episodes of firefly are an hour and a half long. **** that.

yeah but there's only about one series isn't there?

Apparently Serenity is watchable without watching the series. Maybe try that. (I've never watched any of it)

I don't have time to spend an hour and a half watching TV, especially something you probably have to pay attention to to understand.

Don't watch 2 hours of subtitled Danish drama then.

Oh god, I liked the first series of the killing, but the second one I just found myself doing something else and as a result missing all the subtitles :(

I love Scandicrime. The strange thing is that I turn the sound up sometimes.

The word for alibi is great.

Everything else sounds like gobbeldigook but that's just pronounced differently.

Sometimes you can almost follow what they are saying without subtitles. A research article claimed recently that our language is nearer to the Scandinavian languages than to German (as previously thought).

Viking in base then. Let's face it, the French Norse [Normandy, Norwegian] were off-shoots of Vikings, in any case. From my recollection, our only Germanic influence has been through the Dutch Orange era. What have I missed..? I'm no linguistic expert, that's for sure.

The Anglo-Saxons are Germanic tribes, so the Viking influence came later, but was obviously substantial on our language.

Speak for yourself. I've never had a talent for languages and this was no exception. :(

Yep, I've had that, with Dutch too on occasion which I believe is a little closer to us than German? Anyway, off to bed, happy in the end for a draw.

Firefly is amazing! Serenity is also a good stand alone film. A bit like Twin Peaks/ Fire Walk With Me.

Except for Finnish. That's Ukro-Hungarian in nature and basically sounds like Elvish. Either that or they're just trolling the world and making stuff up when anyone else is listening, which is possible. None of the other Scandi nations go near Finnish as a language.

Premature end to a night out. Two beaten up, one bottled, one racially abused. Racially abused guy who was also beaten up came back and smashed the flat and his room up in a fit of rage, guy who's been bottled is in tears and police are still about. What a mess.

The guy and his group of mates who kicked it off? Still in the club.

Riots now, whole roads being closed off and shots being fired (don't know who by).

Miltary vehicles moving in firing tear gas now.
