Law 12 of the Laws of the Game lists the categories of misconduct for which a player may be sent off. These are: 2. Violent conduct - Violent conduct is distinct from serious foul play in that it may be committed by any player, substitute, or substituted player against any person, e.g., teammates, match officials, or spectators Kicking out in retaliation is quite clearly violent conduct and the red card is the correct decision. I challenge anyone who is running and caught from behind unexpectedly to stay on their feet in those circumstances. As a Gills fan i consider Bruce to be a legend but he was wrong on this one.
I don't think that Steve Bruce actually knows what happened, to be honest. His post-match comments simply don't reflect what actually happened. He said that Vertonghen rolled about, which he clearly didn't, after Ramirez gave him a tap on the backside, which isn't why he went over. His comments about cheating and diving should be pulled up. The prick was at Man Utd for years, for a start.
He can say what he want because he's calling a player a cheat and not a referee. I agree, it's not right but then again I'd want our manager to be able to lay into an opposition player if I felt his antics got a player sent off. Generally it's best for managers to stay clear of it though, you only end up looking like a hypocrite at one point or another. Ramirez lying prone on the floor in the first half after next to no contact only to get straight up after play was stopped for him is one example that undermines Bruce's comments.
It's not just Bruce's comments, the BBC, Sky and even the US broadcasters all said Vertonghen made a meal of it and it shouldn't have been a red. If Vertonghen had been sent off for the initial pathetic knee in the back, you'd all be livid.
I didn't think that a red was necessary, despite it being the right decision by the letter of the law. Vertonghen went over because Ramirez put pressure on the back of his knee, though. He didn't roll once and didn't appeal to the ref. No idea how that's making a meal of it. Would you like to point out where Vertonghen kneed anyone in the back, please:
We've done all this. Yes, it was harsh, but the Ref applied the letter of the law and by that he had to go. As for play acting, I haven't seen it enough times to say one way or another. However, even if Vertonghen made a meal of it, it doesn't detract from the fact that the kick was delivered. This feigning of injury, pretending to have been struck facially when it was nowhere near, etc, has become far too prevalent in the Premiership. It's been going on for years. Simeone hit the deck like he'd been shot as soon as Beckham stupidly tapped him.
He does push his knee in Gaston's backside, PNP. And Gaston falls over, presumably Bruce is livid with his player for trying to get Jan sent off
Says the fan of a team that cheated so badly that they were deducted points just a few years back! It must have really hurt to see poch get one over on you a few weeks back...everyone scores against us cos our defence is utter ****e...and everyone beats us at home cos we are so ****e...apart from relegation threatened QPR and....
Jose? Is that you? Is this the game you're referring to?
The reaction to Vertonghen getting kicked/tripped is a great example of an innaccuracy being spouted once, then a second idiot repeating it and from then on it has a life of its own. Vertonghen didn't dive (nothing close to it), didn't roll around, didn't make a meal of it at all and yet cos Robbie Savage (a diving, vicious utter twat of a player who has become a sub-Wright moronic infant of an "analyst" whose opinion is worth much less than nothing) says these things happened other people feel they need to repeat this crap. The BBC website commits a whole story to giving oxygen to Bruce's inaccurate whining without once stating the clear fact that what he's saying is bollocks. Another exercise in how to interpret and digest the media I guess. Which many are incapable of.
Chelsea are a bunch cheating, nasty ****s owned by a murdering gangster though aren't they? Yes. They are. That is definitely true. Thank you for reminding us all what's really wrong with football.
PNP, Paul Allen, agreed, Raziak agreed, Barnard had 6 clubs between us and you so don't agree, Crouch had 6 clubs also so don't agree, Davenport came via West Ham on loan for 7 games only then we got shot pdq, so don't agree. Yes I agree that's some 'list' as you put it. Yid, Crouch had 6 clubs between leave Sours and joining a real team. Clyne left Spurs at 14 never to want to go back. We made Glenda such a good manager that of course out came Joe Lewis chequebook yet again. Spurs foisted the execrable Forecast on us as we literally needed money to pay backroom staff, Levy kindly agreed a one off lump sum of **** all if we waved Bale's sell on clause AND called it quits on the much larger amount still outstanding for our academy boy, (The Tottenham way).
Yes, he did, and should have been red carded. And, these officials get paid for these constantly crap performances. Right, off to sort Villa out........
My examples were all students of the glorious Tottenham Hotspur way, you signed them to try and emulate the great football we play There was no reason for us to pay you anything at the time but being the charitable club we are, we helped out a fellow club in need giving you cash and a player. Tottenham are classy on and off the pitch.
