As the Government Terror is notched up to 'severe' - with the North West in particular in the headlines -possibly suspecting a potential situation around the Arndale centre over the coming weeks - and giving this type of headline news in the Daily Mail Jihadi attack on UK ‘inevitable’: Police fear a beheading by ‘lone wolf’ in shopping centre and farmers are told to lock up fertiliser to foil bombers Anyone feel this type of 'scaremongering' reporting is just irresponsible and alarmist? that it may incite some lunatic 'lone wolf' to do the deed -or is it a case of the 'softly softly' approach to media reports that doesn't sensationalize leaves the public more vulnerable to a potential terrorist attack?
Spot on mate..The Daily mail are a disgrace and should be brought to task over their hatred spreading headlines with absolutely no evidence to support it..
I was thinking this on Saturday in the Arndale Centre, it was absolutely rammed in there and I felt a bit vulnerable for the first time in years. The Mrs said to me, that's us done now til after Xmas in the city centre, it is just ridiculous around Xmas time which is fine by me 'cause I bloody hate it at the best of times. Lone Wolf Don't f**ing glorify them, if we're gonna give them names at least make them factually accurate.... Scruffy, stinking, Whippets.
Have you noticed the tightened or increase in 'security and surveillance' in your neck of the woods mate ? I remember feeling the same sense of 'vulnerability' when I worked in London shortly after the 'bus bombing' -it's not pleasant feeling whatsoever - really feel for the people who have to work in places like the Arndale Centre especially with the media compounding the terror situation. http://www.manchestereveningnews.co...r-manchester-businesses-put-terrorism-8159562
Not at all, a heads up is much appreciated imo, at least it means a member of the public could be in a position to challenge a terrorist. Now if they see someone pull a blade, we know they intend to use it as supposed to using the blade to just make threats. If I see someone pull a knife now, I'll f**ing go for him, something I wouldn't do if I wasn't sure of his intentions as it could make a dangerous situation worse. If the Government has issued a severe threat alert to the public it's the media's responsibility to help let the public know. And I ****ing hate the Fail.
There were armed police on the streets of Manchester following the London Bombings. Saw them with my own eyes.
Was in the Arndale Centre last week. Was surprised how many Asian people there were. Not that that has anything to do with anything.
Don't know where you are coming from with this one mate...Just because some one pulls a blade doesn't mean they are an Islamic terrorist intending to chop someone's head off...It could just as easy be a mugger trying to mug someone..
Just as easy? Really? It could mate. But it would take a monumental idiot to draw a blade in the middle of a crowded shopping center in the mist of a severe terror alert which has informed us that the intel points towards a beheading in a shopping centre. When I'm shopping if someone draws a blade capable of beheading someone, I'll go for them plain and simple. If he turns out to be a monumental idiot so be it, I'll be restraining a criminal all the same, It's my incentive with the knowledge of the Terror alert to Challenge him. Or potentially I could stand back and watch an innocent person beheaded knowing I may have been able to prevent it. I couldn't live with that on my conscience, I'd rather die, I don't fear death.
I haven't noticed anything mate really, the local authorities are more interested in digging up roads in and around the city. If there was a terrorist attack they'd probably get a **** load of us, simply because nobody can move out of the city quickly enough. The Arndale security, from what I can see, consists of nothing but CCTV and the odd security guard in some shops, not somewhere I'd like to frequent during a busy period during times of heightened alert states. I feel sorry for the employees of the shops if they're reading things like that.
Me too, I'd use my past training. That training puts me in a better position to deal with it than many others, It would be irresponsible to pass the Buck.
I must admit I'd start to question myself. I'd like to think I could count on myself to sufficiently incapacitate the attacker but confronting somebody with a deadly weapon, unarmed is something very unnatural to me. I'd like to think there'd be something I could use to put between us, such as a mannequin leg or similar
Maybe I'm just a cynical 'old ****' - also in the news media agenda today Theresa May speaks of new Terror security legislation The new legislation includes: Counter-radicalisation measures - requirements that schools, colleges and probation providers help prevent people being radicalised Changes to TPIMs - Terrorism Prevention and Investigation Measures - to allow the authorities to force suspects to move to another part of the country Raising the burden of proof for imposing TPIMs from "reasonable belief" to "balance of probabilities" Greater powers to disrupt people heading abroad to fight - including cancelling passports at the border for up to 30 days Statutory temporary exclusion orders to control return to the UK of British citizens suspected of terrorist activity Tighter aviation security - requiring airlines to provide passenger data more quickly and effectively Banning insurance companies from covering ransoms Forcing firms to hand details to police identifying who was using a computer or mobile phone at a given time. another intrusion thats gives power to Government bodies - the ability to monitor online communications. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-30173238 The media creates 'fear' the Government responds in kind
Just make it permanent. Why does this ****ing pathetic nation still believe that people can be rehabilitated or changed for the better? Better still, snap their necks as soon as they put a foot on Brit soil and have them disposed of by this...
