Did no one else see Ramirez wallop the Spurs player in the middle of that fracas when both teams crowded the ref in the first half? He'd have walked for that if any of the officials had seen it.
Agree with Ellewoods. Saw the same channel. In fact Robbie Mustoe was quite definite about it. The commentators at the time were watching the play and just made a comment that there was an incident off the ball spotted by the linesman.
Danny Higginbotham was a co-commentator on the channel I watched and said Ramirez was in big trouble just as the play was stopped. For him and the main commentator it was a red card. I have re-watched it a few times including in super slow motion and feel a red was extremely harsh. A view from directly behind the linesman indicated that from the incident occuring to the flag raise was between 2 -3 secs. Also clear that Vertonghen appeared to cry/scream out on falling which caused nearby Spurs players to appeal to the linesman. The alleged" kick-out" only brushed his wrist.
I thought at the time - and this confirms it - Vertonghen grips Ramirez' fot as he goes past. AND IT LOOKS LIKE RAMIREZ REACTS TO THAT.
I think it's the knee from Vertonghen that Ramirez reacted too, Wilshere, Tomkins and Mirallas got away with worse than Ramirez over the weekend.
No doubt we will appeal and have a good chance the red is overturned , wont hide the fact it cost us 3 points yesterday.
I don't think we'll appeal and if we do I don't think it will be overturned. It was a ridiculously soft red, but now it's been given it's not going to be rescinded, as he did lash out.
whatever the disagreement on here, could you imagine a Whitehurst in this situation? In those days you stood on your feet and showed you were a man we need to revise these rules
Ramirez kicked out at the Spurs player who kneed him and has he's falling Vertonghen moves his foot and Ramirez slaps him is how I saw it.
The attack was minimal but lashing out IS a red card by the rule book no matter how soft unless you play for Manchester United, Liverpool etc..
Jamie Carragher and Chris Coleman discuss whether Gaston Ramirez should have seen red in their loss to Tottenham... http://www1.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/9577033/should-ramirez-have-seen-red
What a load of old tripe. ^^^^ this. Get a grip FFS. He was having a very good game and causing Spurs many problems like the rest of them. It was nothing more than a tap but after the red was shown he should have left his fist in Vertonghen's face as he walked off. imo. The game has gone soft and Vertonghen fell as though he had been shot. Yes GR let the team down to a point but i know who i blame for the red card. (linesman/ref and JV). nb. What Jack Wilshere did to Fellaini on saturday was far worse yet got nothing. Big club wins again.
No point. Chance to bring back James Chester and go back to 3-5-2- @ Man Utd now. We will need more pace at the back next week.
Watch Sunderland v Chelsea, Costa committed a far worse kick out than Ramirez and never got a red card, no consistence by ref's.
