Wade Elliot will serve his 3 match ban for being wrongly sent off for a stupid thing. City skipper to serve three-match ban. Wade Elliott will serve a three-match ban after his suspension for a red card at Swindon Town was upheld by the FAâs disciplinary panel. A lack of clear video evidence was the reason behind the panelâs decision to turn down the City skipperâs appeal, meaning he will now sit out games against Preston North End, Peterborough United and AFC Telford United. Manager Steve Cotterill said: âThis decision does not support the implication of guilt, more that the video evidence available to us was not conducive for the panel to be able to overturn the refereeâs decision. âItâs hugely frustrating and unjust that Wade will now serve a three-match ban. Understandably heâs disappointed, an emotion Iâm sure everyone associated with the club concurs with.â Read more at http://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/article/elliott-ban-upheld-2092936.aspx#j2rltbdS9TJXcuhs.99
That was always going to happen. The 'incident' took place outside the camera's view so the referee's decision was upheld. Shame - and it was worth a shot, but hey ho - now we need to move on and get back to winning ways.
Absolutely - let's move on and concentrate on getting 3 points against Preston (who I still think are the team to beat)
Pretty obvious outcome, we could see as much as everyone else, but did the referee's assistant really see what happened, that we will never know, lets move on, one player doesn't make a team.
An absolutely ridiculous decision, even at this level. That being said, there's not much we can do about it now I guess... As others have rightly said, this is a good opportunity to rest him for some key games.
The decision may be ridiculous to most of us but Elliott getting involved in the first place was the most ridiculous thing. Lead by example when you're the captain. He's experienced enough to know better....or maybe not in this case.
I think that this is a big test for our squad and may be make or break for us. It will either prove or disprove that we are the deserved league leaders.
I like to see you react in a dignified manner after being elbowed, kicked, stomped on and grabbed around you neck
And paid to take it and lead by example. Not judging him - just being mindful taking wind ups are part of what he is paid to do. I think he was pulled back into the guy myself but there is no excuse for retaliation which is why the punishments for it are harsher than for the original fouls - which are plain to see
It's his (very well paid) job and this type of incident should be nothing new to him. I got kicked to pieces playing in the Bristol & District League when I was much younger and I reacted the same way as Elliott and got sent off. My team lost that day and I was not exactly flavor of the month for my stupid reaction. Difference was that I was 17 years old and playing for fun, not in my thirties playing professionally. We lost the Swindon game because of his actions. It's that simple.
Take another look at the footage and the swindle player lying on the floor,if you had really been hit in the face you would have your hands on your face where you had been hit not your arm across your face like that cheat had.
I don't understand people saying its a wrong or a ridiculous decision as the Tv pictures don't show what he done. If someone saw it live or seen other pictures then fair enough. Lets face It i reckon if it had been the other way round with a City player going down how many people would be saying its a correct decision
Sitting down here in Barbados I cannot believe what I have just read. The report said the linesman view was blocked by Wilbs, well if that was the case how the hell could you refer to the referee that Elliott was at fault in the first place. If in any doubt you should not be found guilty, the whole thing stinks of corruption.
Just back from Mexico where I heard news of the defeat by Swindon on the weekend. Obviously not what we wanted but when you consider we played with 10 men for virtually all the match I don't think we can begin to consider it a disaster. Now we have an opportunity to prove to ourselves, and the doubters, that we can and will come back and are worthy of being promotion contenders. Adversity only offers bigger reasons to succeed and we will do just that and continue on our merry way to promotion and to hell with the rest. Welcome to our new lad and whoever takes the place of Wade during the next 3 games.
The linesman is an Assistant Referee and just as qualified as the Ref. So what he says has to be taken at face value. As a qualified FA Ref myself, I know the protocol and this is not the ref's fault at all. He has to do what the linesman has told him. He is the one to blame. What I find disappointing is what Elliot says went on in the tunnel.... “In all my time in football I’ve never seen a chairman in the tunnel, antagonising people and whipping it all up. If it wasn’t for our gaffer acting in a calm and dignified manner, getting everyone into the dressing room, then I’m not sure what would have happened down there. If the linesman did not have a clear view of the incident as he says in his report, how the hell can he say to the ref that wade had butted him. He clearly says his view was blocked by wilbs. If in doubt not guilty should have been given.
