Let him go.....Don't care how much he cost, he only has potential to become a good player... Players who show flashes of what they can do for 3 or 4 games in over 2 years....shouldn't be holding our club to ransom
Here come the critics again a goal will reverse the sway as usual as it does for all forwards ,a few weeks ago it was fletcher now hes the man again,it goes in cycles doesnt it,maybe if there was a forward coach within the club it might help both him and altidore to improve their games, lets face it if they were all banging in goals they wouldnt be at safc long anyway thats the rub. I have wanted connor to do well after the back end of last season and it could still happen yet ,but it does look as though we need another option at the moment.
Would've been more interesting to see how people react to this if he'd been playing in the middle. He's not a winger - OK so he says he like playing there but he is not and never will be a winger. Form is poor at the moment but in his first run of games in his preferred position he scored goals. His first run of games at the club. I personally think he needs dropping at the moment. Played well for 30 mins against Everton then reverted to most of this seasons form. I rate the lad. I have seen him capable of doing some very good things - But you can't stick him up top at Fletcher's expense at the moment so give him a couple of weeks on the bench and make him sweat. Make him realise we don't "need" him as there are others capable
I'd have preferred him to go to another Premiership team. At least we wouldn't have had much to worry about next season when we played them.
We'd to whip around for his wages to as won't get what he's on now let alone his 40K. ... He ain't going abroad, he's dreaming, he'll follow the money, join a promoted side, and be on fractionally more than he is now imo.
He's not playing as a winger though, he's playing as an inside left, he's on his strongest foot going towards goal, he likes to run at players too, he shouldn't be this bad it. He's proving he's ridiculously one positioned. He wouldn't be that far from his current position if he played on the left side side of a front two.
Quinn was also one positioned. He couldn't play inside left. Wickham is certainly not playing in an "inside left" that I've seen - he has been spending time giving away free kicks next to his own box - that's not an inside left - that's a left winger helping the defence out. I have no issue with a player being one positioned at all. But he is not playing in that one position and we need someone on the left that can play there (Johnson/Buckley/MAVRIAS!). I personally would put any of those three ahead of him for that position. Fletcher is fit and playing well so he can;t be dropped so, IMO, Wickham should be but hey ho. If he actually is saying that he wants to go abroad (and it's not just idle press ****e) then, personally, he wouldn't be in my starting 11 tomorrow and would only make the bench as there are no other options of any quality that are capable of playing in Fletchers' position should he pick up a knock.
He's overplaying his hand a bit. He has been making an effort lately, but I can't see how he expects the offers to be flooding in...
All I know mate is in the last 6 games of last season when playing up top on his own he'd run from deep attacking from that left side, just like he did against stoke this season and took the piss, this season he's only done it in that Stoke game against Bardo, an average fullback who's poor at dealing with attacker who come across him. He's either lost the ability to play that left side or he just doesn't give a **** anymore, He's not a winger though, right footer on the left, That's an inside forward imo. I wouldn't even start him anymore unless Fletch is unavailable.
Sorry to disagree with you but he needs to be scoring regularly to alter my opinion. So far he's scoring at about one every nine games and if you take away his purple patch in April he's managing one in twenty five. I hate the contract saga and the presumption that he will one day make good. Not scoring is only one facet of the problem as he seems to be easily dispossessed and he takes several touches before he can shoot. Will he get better or are some of these weaknesses reflexes and intuitive in top class strikers. Saying this I like the lad and watch each week hoping to see a transformation.
Me either mate - totally agree with you on that. He started OK against Everton for about 25 minutes he looked quite good but then went back to Crystal Palace style. Only really against United and Stoke has he played really well this season - the rest he's been average or worse! And all this paper stuff needs knocking on the head and he really needs to know where he stands. The club, IMO, are now in a better position than he is and can basically tell him to jump. Money loss might be one thing but demands, now, are pretty pointless from him as his form does not match his demands. If he scores 10 goals before the end of January then he can look for more money. If he keeps on his current path he's not worth what he's on
I think his Agent is giving him very poor advice. Replace him in jan, If we can't sell him and Jozy in that window then he'll be fighting with jozy just for a place on the bench but a new striker is desperately needed. Someone who's comfortable playing any part of the front three.
He's average at best, we should expect much better for £40k a week. Canny on his day but not consistent ( had a hot spell at Sheff Wed then pants at Leeds). Did nothing thru the middle 1st few games this season.
