This is quite a good piece, and offers three more plausible alternatives than Defoe. - - - - - - - - - - - We list three strikers Queens Park Rangers should consider signing instead of Jermain Defoe. John Verrall Sandro has implored Harry Redknapp to sign Jermain Defoe for Queens Park Rangers. The Brazilian midfielder feels that Defoe could bring a lot to the team, having played with him previously at Tottenham Hotspur, and hopes that the rumours of the R's interest in the experienced forward are true. However, at this stage of his career there must be concerns over whether Defoe is capable of performing in the Premier League. A lethal finisher in his day, Defoe is unlikely to have lost this quality, but his pace and mobility have decreased as the years have gone by. The 32-year-old has been playing his football in the MLS for nearly 12 months now and would likely need some time to adjust to the Premier League again if he did come back to England. It means that Defoe's arrival at QPR may not be one which they should pursue, despite Sandro's craving for a reunion with the England international, and in this piece we take a look at three strikers who could be better options. Danny Ings (Burnley) Danny Ings' contract at Burnley expires next summer and the Clarets are unlikely to be wanting to lose him on a free. He could, therefore, be available at a cut-price in the new year and would enhance the quality that Redknapp has available to him. Ings is only 22-years-old and has not fully adapted to the Premier League yet, but he is the sort of player who could form a lethal partnership with Charlie Austin up-front. The England youth-international is tireless in his work-rate and enjoys playing on the shoulder of the last man, meaning he could benefit from Austin's more physical approach. Ings is a striker who is likely to develop in the future and if Redknapp is thinking long-term than he is a far better buy than Defoe would be. Andre Ayew (Marseille) Another forward whose contract is expiring at the end of the season, Andre Ayew could be a viable target for the London club to pursue in January. Ayew should not have a problem coping with the demands of the Premier League, due to his physical attributes and he would provide Redknapp with a different sort of option to what he currently has in his forward ranks. At 24, Ayew should just be starting to head into his prime and he represents a potential bargain. Joel Campbell (Arsenal) The most expensive of the three possible options, Campbell could be tempted to join QPR due to the offer of first-team football. The Costa Rican was in fine form at the World Cup, but he has failed to make an impression back at the Emirates Stadium and a move could be an option in January. Campbell can play either as a striker or a winger and his speed is his major weapon, although he also possesses a clinical touch in-front of goal. Another player who still has plenty of time to develop, at 22, he would surely make a better purchase than Defoe for Redknapp's men, or could even be available on loan. http://hereisthecity.com/en-gb/2014/11/20/three-strikers-qpr-could-sign-instead-of-jermain-defoe/?
Would take any of those three ahead of Defoe - all young and hungry, with good re-sale value if it all goes wrong at the end of the season
Good find 9's, all 3 would be far more attractive than the ageing Defoe......can any of them carry out the OBZ role as that is where we need to get cover in January as it will be unlikely that OBZ will remain injury free for the net 6 months......
Yep, all three of those sound like they offer more beyond the short-term than an ageing and expensive Defoe. We do need cover for Charlie and, whilst Vargas could switch to the centre, he's doing very nicely out wide.
A massive Yes please to Danny Ings. If we dont get him he'll go to Leicester. I'd have any of those 3 over Defoe TBH. We could prob afford 2 for the price we are gonna pay JD
Not at the wages and transfer fee being touted. If we got Defoe for 2million,and a wage of 30-40k a week on 1 1/2 year deal then yes, but neither of these figures will be accepted.
My thoughts exactly, we need a player that can hold the ball up who's knees/hip/back aren't shot to pieces
Johnny Russell of Derby looked useful when he came on for Scotland in the England game. So did Stevie May in that match - weren't we sniffing around him a while back? Jonathan "Johnny" Russell (born 8 April 1990) is a Scottish professional footballer who plays as a striker for Football League Championship club Derby County. He began his career with Dundee United before joining Derby in 2013. He has also played for Forfar Athletic and Raith Rovers on loan. Russell represented Scotland at under-19 and under-21 level. He was first named in the Scotland squad in 2012, and made his full international debut in November 2014. In June 2013; Derby County had an offer accepted for the striker, with personal terms also agreed ahead of a medical on 10 June. On the day of his medical, Russell formally joined Derby County for a fee of around £750,000. He signed a four-year contract. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnny_Russell_(footballer)
On the subject of strikers, how about "Frannie" Collin of Maidstone United playing in the Isthmian League Premier Division having been promoted from the Isthmian League Division One South in 2013, who put two goals past League Two Stevenage, winning 2-1 to progress to the Second Round of the FA Cup. Well done to them. Get your heads out of the championship Danny Ings V Defoe FFS based on what? age and a guess Defoe will put more chances away any day for the next few years ... The reason we are buying him keep us up first before guessing
People said the same about Charlie mate, although i do accept your point. giong on your theory though we should get Thierry henry, Beckham and Shearer because they have done it before.... ?! I like defoe, but not convinced he is still up to it. UI guess its only half a season and if he keeps us up then it will be a good gamble. Thats why Harry gets paid the big bucks mate....and we dont
I'll double up here for the simple fact that Defoe, as much as dislike him for being a self-centered money hungry, ego-mastic twat BUT, the simple fact we may gain PL survival by his proposed goal here and there. Charlie, as much as we love him, can not do it all himself. We need another 'body' to assist him in putting them away. Defoe may not and probably never be a QPR die-hard but all we need from him is to help keep us up .................. nothing more, nothing less. We know what players are genuine to the badge and who are here just to collect $$$$$$$. Fact is we need a little bit from one and all to be next season. Let's make it happen.
Yep i do agree Aussie if he chips in with 10 goals then its a gamble worth taking and the likes of Ings etc should be secondary. I wait to be convinced TBH
Dont really "follow it" as such mate but taken the kids to see Brisbane lions a few times. The game itself is a bit crap (unless you have a bet0 but the way its promoted as a family sport, and the time and money the put into kids and the community is excellent. they really do link well with the schools and hold free coaching clinics etc. My youngest has one of the first team players visit his school every week as a Phys Ed type face/ meet and greet. the whole experience of th match is really good and the worst thing is the actual game itself. as for Other sports mate, its support your local club....They really push that... so its Brisbane Roar, Brisbane Bronco's, the Diamonds and The Reds...
League champs 2 out of 3 years mate...cant knock that. I think "Melbourne Money" will get it this year though....
Need to start looking for a long term BZ replacement, he is the one making the difference this season but he's not going to last
