He never was that good at saving Neil Ruddock was declared bankrupt a few months back too. Neither will be a true bankrupt though, both will have done it for financial benefit. Still shocking mind considering the vast sums they've earnt over the years. Both were part of the initial pay boom too so probably didn't get the advice and guidance and how to manage their income. Young players now get all sorts of counselling etc to avoid such scenarios.
True but it's not always down to being wasteful with spending. In some cases, players try to be smart by investing and building portfolios but are on the wrong side of a boom/recession and they lose everything.
And that is at times what is wrong with the World, the I have money, I want more money attitude. Granted hindsight is a wonderful thing but if I had that kind of money I'd be content to look after myself and my family and live out my life in reasonable comfort other than blowing it on money making schemes.
I don't know the correct reasons behind James' and Rudduck's bankruptcies but I'm fairly confident it won't be through investing and building portfolios A few years ago I read Gazza's book. In there, he mentioned child maintenance and having to pay something like £6k per week to Cheryl. When he stopped playing he was still paying it and that's why he took jobs at lower league clubs. He said he was at one club where he was earning enough to pay the maintenance and nothing else. He didn't want to go to the courts to get the maintenance figure changed because he obviously wanted the best for his kids and he claimed to still love Cheryl too so wanted the best for her as well. So basically, he got his self into financial difficulties for the benefit of his family
the thing these lads have (james more than ruddock) is an ability to pick up handy numbers running some kids coaching or a journalist slot some place or of course dinnr circuits etc. they never need go hungry anyway.... i have zero sympathy for clowns like this
being declared bankrupt is far too easy a escape for people nowadays. I'm not convinced Ruddock or James are skint, they've just moved their money somewhere IMO.
no chance they are skint, and even if they were no sympathy from me. besides everyone has dif variations of skint, to me skint is down to my last fiver, my mate its when he only has a grand left ffs lol
