I take your point, but I'd rather the league as I think its a better indication of consistency and overall quality. However, you could argue that to win the CL you have to defeat the best in Europe, and not just your domestic league- but I still think an inspired run with a bit of good fortune thrown in can win a cup, whereas to win the PL you do have to be the best that season.
The way I always have taken the attitude about the league is that we are Liverpool we win the league and that is our first priority, while doing that we also look to win everything else available. Times have unfortunately changed and we are not the force we once were. At this moment we should always start the season looking to win the league no matter how unlikely that may be, as the season goes on we look to win everything else available. So same priority, same attitude just different results to years ago.
very silly. why do real madrid sack managers.... not for failing to win a tile, no they sack for failure to win cl. who wins most titles... barca, real, bayern, psg.. virtual lock outs, juve too... all chase cls. fact is shteve here degrades cl as his side failed to win many. when Chelsea walk the title this year RA will be asking where's my cl. cl is the ultimate, titles yes are bread and butter great... would i swap a cl win for 3 league titles? ehhhhhh yeah.... so? 3 league titles question is obvious to put us on 21 titles etc etc.... not the point 3 titles over a short period = great dominance. on cl = can be lucky with draw. would i swap 2005 for a title in 2009 or 2014.... no i'd swap 2005 for nothing. lfc have to earn that title.
I love a good title/CL debate and what is better or worse..... But would prefer to discuss who has the manager who is living on a reputation alone at this time
I didn't degrade the CL. The (frankly idiotic) comparison that was made was Rafa had a better 5 years in Europe than Fergie ever managed, simply because he made two champions league finals, winning one and losing one (should be pointed out that Fergie made three finals in 4 years, winning one and losing two so even the original statement was factually incorrect). I asked whether you'd swap 3 league titles for a CL final (defeat) over the course of 5 years. Fergie won 3 league titles in the 4 years that he also got to 3 CL finals. Competing on two fronts.
Rafa broke so many club records with us it's almost unbelievable. Just a taster - He became the 1st manager in the clubâs history to win a trophy in each of his first 2 seasons in charge. Went unbeaten in 30 successive home league games for only the 4th time in our entire history. 08/09 Liverpool came from behind to defeat Manchester United in the league for the 1st time in 42 years Recorded our biggest win at Old Trafford for 72 years. It was also the 1st time 4 Liverpool players had scored at United in the same game. Rafa understood Liverpool in a way Rodgers never has and the fact so many of Rafa's buys left the club as 'honorary scousers' [ mito knows ] and love the club still, is also testament to that.
yeah... so how many trophies as moyes... oh sorry van gaal won exactly for utd.... would shteve swap either for ferguson right now is a more pertinant comparision given this supposed debate is about rodgers out rafa in.
On fergies european record. I believe hes the most successful in europe based on europwan trophies. Tied with a few others. Not sure of Ancelottis last win had any effect. So there goes the 'failed in europe' theory. The fact he could have and maybe should have done better jist furthers strengthens his position as the best ever.
