Bristol City managed to lose away to Swindon yesterday leaving Super Chelsea the only team left unbeaten in the top 5 divisions of English football. The loan under 21 Chelsea right-back - Todd Kane - played OK for Bristol City. The defeat came about mainly due to the sending off of a key City player in the first few minutes. Bristol City won their last Championship way back in the 1954/55 season - the same season that Chelsea won the top flight for the first time and with an ex Bristol City player as Captain - the legendary Roy Bentley. 60 years on and it could again be City as Champions of the third tier and Chelsea again Champions of the top flight.
......it's looking increasingly likely that Mourinho's current Super Chelsea will be unbeaten in the Premiership come the end of the season. Never mind Wenger's Arsenal 'invincibles' of 2004, this current Chelsea side look to be becoming the very best in the history of top flight English football. Strong in every position on the pitch and suberbly managed.
There are 2 other more recent Chelsea ex Bristol City players to my knowledge - Chris Garland and Colin Lee. Chelsea looked shakey last season at Stamford Bridge against West Brom when we were caught out twice via quick counter attacks. This coming Saturday I'm hoping there will be no such problem for Chelsea to remain unbeaten and invincible.
The problem with talking about going a season unbeaten, is that there is always a hidden problem lurking round the corner. We've had good fortune in the injury department so far, but if we'd had a pile up of injuries like some have had, who knows! anyway let's hope we can do it and I for one will be a very happy man!
Personally I think it's ludicrous to be talking up going unbeaten already. You see how hard it is in that's it's only been achieved what twice ever? And once in the last 100 years or so? We are doing well and look a very well rounded side but it's not like we're smashing teams every week. I think we still look well beatable when we have an off day. Until we get to at least mid way through the season it's not even worth considering and that's still 8 games away!
.....perhaps it's enough of an achievement - in mid November - to just be the only team left unbeaten in the league in the top 5 divisions this season !!!!!! As far as I know, there are only 2 clubs that have been 'invincible' for a whole season in the top flight of English football - Arsenal and Preston North End. Chelsea, this season, are well capable of this prestigious feat in my opinion. We have the team, we have the manager.
Yeah it's a great achievement and one which bodes well for the season. But there's no way I'm thinking about an unbeaten season yet. One game at a time.
Personally I dont give a **** if we go unbeaten, as long as we win the title, there isn't an extra trophy for going unbeaten. It's just one of those bullshit feats, of which Arsenal scarcely deserved anyway, the amount of get out of Jail free cards they got in that season was ridiculous. Against Everton I believe it was, when they should have lost, and United as well. It's just something cool to brag about in the play ground....I'm more of a trophy man myself.
Against Portsmouth they were very lucky as well. Think they were losing, Pires dived and they scored the pen if I recall. The following season we only lost once but got the record for points in a P.L season. That was the better feat IMO. If we went unbeaten, it'd be nice to do it and give the Gooners one less thing to brag about but as you say, title is much much more important. You could go unbeaten and get relegated technically!!
