Clyne was weighing up his options anyways. Hopefully we finish around 5th and he can see we are progressing and signs a new deal.

Hey..! Whole team to everyone..! Expect the same as happened in the last close season. Everyone who is especially shining now will be expected to leave.

You see, I can do ultra depressive as well, but I normally choose not to, because it serves no purpose, other than to depress the happy time we have. What's the point..? It's all speculation, as I've said before, and it may never happen anyway. But now you've heard it here first. You can blame me and not Beefy. :)

Players are always going to be linked with moves away. The difference now is that we are rapidly becoming a team that players also get linked to...a lot of teams probably quake to have their players linked to us.

If the players have not learnt anything from the likes of Lallan, Lambert and Lovren then they really don't deserve to b at Saints. In truth, I think we have a very settled squad and with maybe the exception of Cork (who is probably running out of patience for his new contract - or asking too much) I can't see anyone actually looknig for a move.

Well someone appears to have learnt precisely nothing from last summer. Whilst we may all be having a good little laugh at how all the players who left us last summer are doing, both personal performances and with their new teams, I would be completely shocked if any of them regret leaving at all. They all will have hade significant pay rises, are playing for teams who historically are far bigger and therefore are more likely to be back in around the top spots sooner rather than later and are helping their international chances by playing for these teams.

Even if we somehow won the league this year I still think Schneiderlin and Rodriguez would be off in the summer, the lure of playing for these clubs is too big than staying at a club who is obviously attempting to break the status quo, and even if we do for one season there is no guarentee that it wasn't a flash in the pan.

I also doubt that anyone regrets their move from a financial point of view or a status point of view...it will be forever on their CV that they played for Arsenal, United or Liverpool. And only Lovren is really doing badly. Chambers will be given time at Arsenal to develop, Lambert's not playing is hardly his fault, Lallana will do very well at Liverpool, and Shaw will become a very good player (though he would have done better here for another season or two). It isn't always a move that's wrong, it is often just choosing the wrong team to move to. Just as we choose the right people for Saints, players need to look carefully at whether their next team is right for them.

Whilst I agree in principle that teams are greater than the sum of their parts (and especially believe this about Saints teams over the last couple of years), I also think that most footballers do not think about this at all when one of the so called big boys come knocking. They either are supremely confident in their own ability, almost to the point of delusion, or they see the financial rewards on offer which can potentially set their family up for generations, and to be perfectly honest in most scenarios involving a player potentially moving from a club of the size of Saints to a Chelsea/United/Liverpool/Arsenal the player would be very foolish to not take the offer.

I would be surprised if most players don't look at their options it is their career after all. That doesn't mean they are all going to decide to move. Saints isn't a bad place to be you know

Yes, don't want to pay over the odds. Not what I'm saying - just that if there's ever been less of a Saints kind of signing than Jermaine Defoe, I've yet to see it. Factor in his massive salary - and at this stage in his career he will be after massive paydays - and I think we'd be better off paying over the odds on a transfer fee for a player we genuinely want, and who we'll be paying a lot less. No way we will be looking to sign someone with an ego to unbalance the current squad.

And Rickie - what is the point in going back? Suits no one - why come back here and be on our bench rather than Liverpool's, as he needs months of retaining match fitness, by which time the season will be at a close. And for the fans, it can't be the same - is always more likely to end up in disappointment.

I liked my old job. I liked the people, the work environment, and the planes.

But I still moved for better money and opportunities.

I don't disagree with you but IMO there is a huge difference between what happened last summer where we finished 8th and this year where we lie four points clear in 2nd with a very real chance of CL football next year. I agree if we drop away and finish 6th or 7th, there's a few that will chase the money and the shortcut that was mocked in our manifesto

This supports what I have said...players need to choose their teams carefully. Sinclair says he can only blame himself...I suppose he had confidence in his own ability at the time. Dreadful for a young player to have scarcely played for two years...he may need to take a pay cut (regrettably some aren't willing to do that).

It's a strange strategy to issue the 'come and get me' plea to TWO clubs isn't it?

Sinclair would have been good for us a while back and it would have worked well given one of his brothers is here. But his hugely disappointing loan at WBA will work against him I'm afraid.

Now he's got the attention-seeking celeb girlfriend etc., and media circus that surrounds all that, hopefully the black box will say no. Reckon it would unsettle the squad, whether nor not that's unfair on him or not. She'll want him to accompany her to nightclubs for press shots, or one of our squad will try and shag her, or whatever else goes on, and the opportunities for unsettling the ship could be vast.
