True but that player then needs the supply. To save me typing anymore I'll just say; see Kenny signing Carroll for more info
I was referring to the whole approach of replacing Suarez: 1) We didn't expect him to leave 2) Therefore signed players like Lallana who could slot around him, Lambert as back up, and Markovic as an understudy. 3) Suarez leaves 4) We then target Remy - fast and versatile 5) Then target Bony - big strong, target man 6) End up with Balotelli as the last resort (Rodgers even admitted that). That is what I call scattergun.
I don't agree. I think it was a panic signing after failing to get their main targets, they also had Brod's first summer in mind when Carroll was allowed to join West Ham on loan and we were left with just Suarez and Borini until Studge arrived in the January. None of us have any idea what the committee or Brod wanted so no point in debating it.
We even kept Eto'o on hold and in reserve whilst we looked into the Balotelli signing I think it came down to one or the other and we went with Mario.
I think you're right. Jimmy what you said is correct that we didn't expect Suarez to leave, but we were also needing to bolster the squad with CL football which is why players you mentioned were signed. Saying we targeted X then Y when X fell through is the opposite of scattergun.
Maybe.... All I know is that I'm delighted we signed him. Not only for his ability and goals, but the mere fact of having a player of his quality around the younger lads (including Lukaku) is a massive benefit for the their development. A totally different class of player to Balotelli
He was a disruptive influence at Barca, hence the reason for including them in their deal for Zlatan.
He didn't get on with Pep, reckoned he didn't speak to him. Not arsed like, he seems to get on fine with Martinez so it's all good.
Roberto Carlos warned Chelsea '' ... that new striker Samuel Eto'o can have a 'damaging' influence on the dressing room'' Guardiola wanted rid of Eto'o because ''he was a bad influence on Messi ...''
Roberto Carlos on Eto'o - from the same interview as the above quote; Easy this selective quoting lark......
That's going to be confusing if he starts playing for us whilst still wearing a Lille shirt. Especially if we ever meet Lille in the Champions League. Re Mario: Balotelli was a gamble... that like many gambles doesn't appear to have paid off.
...... He said: "I have known Eto'o since I was 16 and since then I always liked him. He is a good person, but he always thinks of himself and not the group. ''
You already know I'd have rather have had Eto'o than Balotelli. I think they are both pricks but for differing reasons. I've also said I'd rather have Shane Long or play Fabio Borini than either of them
I've seen people use the gamble argument before. It was a gamble in liking to placing six months salary on a elephant winning a horse race!
