There has been much talk about the prospect of ending Origi's loan to Lille and that this would turn our season around. He looks a talent and one for the future, no doubt but to expect one 19 year old to be our saviour would smack of absolute desperation. The rumours may not be true of course but if there is any substance to it, I would now begin to question certain peoples sanity! Hopefully, we'll dig deep and buy a world class player in January.....if one is available of course!

Agreed - and what if he doesn't do too well in his first games? Judging by some fan's reactions towards Markovic, he'll be written off.

We need more than a 19 year to come into this team.

Our focus should be on GK, CB, DM and a striker. All of whom must be experienced (in terms of playing experience and not age).

Worryingly, they were our primary targets in the summer too.....when we had an extra £120m in our pockets!!! I have lost faith in the recruitment team/process tbh. <ok>

Yep - wasted a lot of money on Lovren and Lallana. Markovic is a very talented player so I can see the logic behind his signing, but not the timing.

I just hope that the power goes back to the committee and they have the final say.

I think it needs more than that. Truth won't be known until next year though, when some of the new buys have had a year in the league.

  7. It could be considered desperate to pin our hopes on a 19 year old and I certainly don't see any reason to argue otherwise but I will point out that a 18 year old Michael Owen was the butt of our hopes after he broke through.

We're in a slightly better although very similar position to how it was last summer, loads of (different) deadwood that needs clearing, still need quality up front, still uncertain about our defensive options. Origi looks a decent player but is he having a good season so far, I don't ever see him play, and does his style suit the prem?

The key point. Origi is still in a Lille shirt.

  10. Which is why I said I wouldn't argue otherwise, just point out that age doesn't necessarily stop the player being a key figure. Until Origi plays for Liverpool then I don't think we should be expecting too much TBH. He looks a good player but many have looked good in the French league before him too.

I have no opinion on him until he plays in red. That's all that matters, as soon as he hits the park for us. As you say good or bad form in a different league is no indication. Got to live in the present and presently he's in Lille. Next season he will be coming home.

  12. I think you can have hopes and expectations but they need to be realistic. If we we're signing Messi we'd be pretty exciting and expecting him to make us a great team, if we were re-signing Emile Heskey we'd probably expect to be relegated <laugh> Someone inbetween is a realistic hope and expectation for Origi.

To be fair mate if we signed Messi Rodgers would probably still start Balotelli ahead of him, just to prove a point.

  14. He'd certainly prove a point <laugh>

I've said on many occasions there's nothing wrong with our signings other than Balotelli, it's the tactics and system that is the problem at the moment. I'd have Origi in the team now though, so what if he's 19 if he's good enough get him in and he's certainly an upgrade on Balo.

With a high price comes high expectation. It's nothing personal on the lad, but more of a dig at Rodgers. At £20million you expect a lot more signs of class and potential. If Markavich cost the same as Origi (£10m) then his performances would not be questioned.
