    no no no.

I am sorry but why do they make disease fashionable?

5000 people have died worldwide from Ebola so far, tragic yes but we should be looking closer to home to really save lives.

Some preventable deaths in the UK (source guardian mortality rates) from 2011

27,000 die in accidents and 31,000 elderly people in the UK died from the cold. Over 5000 people commit suicide each year. Overdoses and drug related deaths 2000.

    Come on.

I'm not rubbishing the cause but if you want to make a difference this xmas you don't have to feed the coffers of the record industry , knock on a elderly neighbours door, say hello to the guy that nobody else will.

And we won't be subjected to this band aid self promotion bullshat.

Totally agree with everything you say.

If it wasn't Ebola it would be something else. These attention seeking morons make me puke - especially Bonehead and Getoff.

What also annoyed me was that Osborne is waiving the VAT on the record sales. Why? We need all the tax pounds we can get and anyway the Government has already donated OUR taxes and our troops to help. Why not waive the tax on over 65's heating bills, it's only 5% not the 20% he's giving to the record industry.

Bonio could start by paying his own taxes.

it's basically propaganda. i hate this stuff - forcing of doing good deeds in your face. i already do enough good deeds thanks, if people want to buy the song, good for them. but i think we should look after the problems we have at home first, or nuking the sh1t out of ISIS before we hand over money to countries that will most likely swindle it anyway.

If I'd lost a daughter to a drugs overdose, I don't think I'd want to be pissing about with talentless pop-tarts. In fact, I don't think I'd be in a state to do anything. Perhaps Sir Bob should look at problems closer to home.

And, yes, the legend of Ponders End has returned. <cool>

Quite agree. They ("the stars") are just a bunch of back scratchers, has beens and wanabees.

We are giving billions to Africa already in overseas aid, the vast majority of which never reaches the people it is intended for because of the venality and greed of African leaders. North Africa is now a basket case because of Western military intervention and interference, and South Africa will make what happened in Rhodesia look like a tea party in our lifetimes.

As I opened this thread it's just come kn the radio in my cab in Denmark - first time for hearing it. I'm more offended by the fact they've butchered what was actually a classic song. Just as bad as the 90's version.

I am usually a pacifist but there is something about Bono that whenever I see him I want to put my foot through the Television. I have got Charity fatigue. I already give to about ten Charities of my choice. I agree with Vol and others on this site that there are pressing problems at home. Old people not being able to heat their homes, homeless. People being forced to get their food from food banks.Companies like Starbucks, Amazon who are avoiding paying the tax that they should. The tax loopholes should be tightened up as we are losing many millions a year. Money that could be used for building Hospitals and helping the disadvantaged.

Yes Ebola is a problem, one the whole world should be looking to cure.

Bono must be the most hated man on the planet? He is in my eyes - deplorable man. And the fact he got himself on my iPhone without my consent made my blood boil!

But that's what this is about. He made a huge mistake and is using charity to try and regain some popularity.

I once got a black cab from Bromley South to Forest Hill. The cabbie either thought I was drunk, or Polish, as he took me via the South Circular and charged me £40. I got out at the cash point and ran off without paying - cheating bastard.

I've just told Bono what you said and he's gutted. He's now standing on The Edge. Meanwhile The Edge is finally starting to understand what everyone's been saying about Bono.

The edge is even worse than Bono! In fact, mentioning both will result in a ban. Or a seriously raised eyebrow - whatevs.

Igor doesn't tip. I tipped him.

What really annoys me is that Bono is a tax dodger and moved everything U2 away from Ireland to the Netherlands - depriving Ireland from much needed taxes and jobs and also spent the last decade telling the Irish Government to provide aid to developing third world countries. I also recall him giving a speech about the need to stop polluting the rain forest, the next day he sent his pilot and private jet 3000 miles empty to collect his favourite hat which he left in a hotel. He also has a net worth of about 320 million.
Bob Gandolf on the other wallet, has amassed a personal wealth of £32 million on the back of one song he co- wrote. He also ridiculed Adele for putting her family before the Ebola cause.....er Bob.

When the rich ask the poor to give to the poor you know why the rich are rich and the poor are poor.

Yeah I was astounded to see that Geldoff was worth £32m.

In contrast the same article said Paul Weller and Rick Parfitt were both worth £6m apiece.

    Drugs and haircuts.

Bob Geldoff makes a saving on at least one of those.

Yeah, I've told you all about this before, but Paul Weller actually bought me a pack of tabs from the Asda at Hockley, Essex.

It was a Saturday night, and we were queuing at the tobacco counter, waiting for the Lotto tickets to be processed. We began chatting about the price of snouts and how it took the piss that our favourites cost almost 8 sheets a pack. He smokes Dunhill and I smoke B&H. Anyway, he went ahead, got his stuff and then left. When I arrived at the counter, the lady handed me twenty snouts and informed me that the gentlemen before had left them for me.

    Cool, eh?
