Hi

I am sure you have read the stories which are being circulated which is suggesting that the Bristol Rovers Board has blocked efforts by manager Darrell Clarke to sign a striker such as Jamaine Easter.

I wish to clarify for you that this story is totally untrue. The board has made it absolutely clear that we will do all we can to support Darrell. The manager is currently talking to several strikers, their representatives and clubs and every effort is being made to fill this gap depending on their terms and availability. We will continue to support Darrell in his search.

My sincere thanks for your support

Best wishes

Hi Brian <ok>

I was about to post something similar copying your tweets on the issue. I personally havent seen any strories yet but thanks for the heads up though. I would be very strange if the board didnt back DC seeing they gave him full backing in the summer and that we are 4th in the table. If we were 4th bottom then I would understand but doing well in the table, it would confuse me for sure if he didnt get the boards full support. So im glad you have come on and cleared this up before I and maybe others see the false stories.

Thanks again Brian <ok>

He's one of those strikers which seems to have fallen completely by the wayside in the last 2 or 3 years. He could definitely score goals in the Conference if his application was good enough, but my fear is that he would lack confidence in front of goal as well as match fitness. I would say he is past his best but he is still relatively young.

DC has spoken about the situation.....

Bristol Rovers boss Darrell Clarke has this evening confirmed an interest in signing Millwall striker Jermaine Easter. Clarke said that he had met Easter for lunch earlier this week after the striker had contacted him to investigate the possibility of a move in an attempt to return closer to his hometown of Cardiff. Speaking after Rovers drew 1-1 with Kidderminster Harriers at the Memorial Stadium this afternoon, Clarke said:
“Jermaine was a young professional when I was at Hartlepool United and he contacted me to have a chat because he is a Cardiff boy and he wants to get closer to home. To get a player of a Championship club with 12 international caps to his name is a bit of a long shot, but we are trying to get in touch with Millwall to see if we can make a deal happen. That is the long and the short of it, but I can’t say too much other than that because Jermaine is a Millwall player. There is no hidden agenda and I have to say that the board has certainly not refused me the chance of getting Jermaine, but the finances have to be right.”

We deff need someone who can at least find the net, our goals for is CRAP and then some. We all know that this has been the problem for too many years now and if we are to bounce back up we have to get ideally 2 strikers who can score regularly. The current lot just aint earning their money. To ready with excuses tight defences packing the box etc etc, well DC better sort some tatics out in order to overcome these problems. Just because we dont lose doesnt bring in sufficient points its all about winning and we dont do it enough !

Is Jermaine Easter really the answer?

I guess he could be if the question is 'who will command huge wages and probably fail to score many goals?'

He's a big name at our level, but his record's not good and he seems to only want to come to us to be closer to the land of sheep bothering. I'm not convinced.

Constable and Midson haven't exactly set the Conference on fire. But you can't really argue with getting a player with his experience from a Championship club. One thing you can say about us at the moment is that we create a lot of chances, so if someone like Easter can convert just a few more it will make a big difference.

I only have two words to those who think that signing an underperforming player from a much higher level is a good idea:

Derek Riordan

You are indeed right we have enough of these under performers in the attack already. Who knows if Mr Easter is able to do the biz at our low level ? Can he be any worse than what we have especially if we dont have to meet his full wage demands. If we'd already taken a punt and he he'd scored say 3 goals in some of the games we have drawn it might have pushed us 6 points ahead of our current tally. Not 100% that he would have done this but would it have been worse than current ? Fact is that same old story, Goals for is pitiful for a big ambitious club like ours. Sadly been the case for far to long. Strikers that cant finish, so business as usual for the forseeable me thinks. To many games into the season with chances created not being buried so unless we sign, loan or stumble across a couple of capable finishers come May and the seasons end we shall still be in this gloomy pond. Meanwhile our friendly Multi Bristol Sports Franchise, Teams Lansdown push on, on and off the park. Winning team, top of the league and oh a posh re developed ground taking place. The pain just goes on for Gasheads as we cast envious eyes over the other side of the river. Players, Managers even Directors come and go, supporters are the life blood of any Club and we deserve to have some hope for the future. I dont want a team that set out not to lose, I want team that sets out to win above all else.

Rendell always looked quite useful - he played for us for a while. Beautyman is only 22 or so and has bagged a lot of goals in a struggling side. I think we'd do better trying to sign someone who's actually scoring goals rather than someone who used to be ok.

Lets be realistic there is no way you are going to get a performing player from an higher division. Personally I think Easter would be a good signing for you

Obviously not, but I'm still unconvinced about Easter, especially after the Riordan debacle.

As Gastro said higher up, Harry Beautyman from Welling would be a great signing but we'd have to pay a few quid to sign him so it will never happen.
