Cheers Swords, was an enthralling game, bit of blood and thunder but enjoyable to watch. Th group is nicely set up now, three teams on 7 points, all to play for. Now I can put my England top back on for tomorrow night (is it just me, or are England matches quite boring at the moment?)
Originally from East Acton, just along from Shepherds Bush - hence QPR are my team. Then Ealing and Northolt, moved around a bit in my twenties, and settled up here nearly 15 years ago.
Countries that really should stick to rugby and that gaelic sports stuff like hurling or whatever. No excuses for such a total lack of techical ability in the 21st century. If similar small countries such as Croatia and Bosnia can play proper football what's the problem up here in the rain sodden north? Has to change, England has the same problem of course.
Who'll you be up for next week Monkey? Imaz, it weren't great but I don't think it was quite as bad as you're making out. It was always going to be a typical British-style derby. Strachan said a couple of weeks ago that you could forget about football being played. It was never gonna be that type of game.
Haha, got to be England, although I've been banned from watching it with my pals! And they have told me - No texts during match!! Got to keep it down in the house too, cos Mrs Monkey is from Glasgow.......
Monkey, they put the table up on the TV here as Germany, then Scotland and then Ireland. All on seven points but Ireland have the best GD. Why aren't they top of that group?
It must do Monkey. I'm not saying this because Ireland are bottom on that score but I've always thought that was a silly change they made to the rules. Points, GD, Goals scored and then head to head is the way it used to be and that's the way it should've stayed. Oh well. The suits in UEFA have to tinker with the rules now and again to keep themselves in a job
Have to disagree with that - in my opinion the football game is not all about flash & finesse, it's also about the passion, and there was plenty of that on display in the Scotland v Ireland game, and this was also recently described by some here watching some of the FA Cup ties between lower league teams. Do you really want to see a bunch of pre-programmed robots playing against one another? As a boy living in Hampshire, I loved it when Dad brought me to the occasional Division Three R's match, but I joined him for all the the local Andover Football Club home matches at The Walled Meadow, but enjoyed the play, especially Dad's half-time treat of a Mars bar, a bag of crisps and a fizzy Cherry drink - likely to keep me out of his hair while he hobnobbed with his mates. My highlight was in FA Cup play when Andover beat Higher league Hendon Town 5-4, but lost in the next round 1-0 against Division Four Gillingham - I remember that was quite the day out in a very close game. Behind the home goal there was always a little old lady watching and you could always clearly hear her voice continually bleating out, "Keep them out Andover" "In 1962, the club followed Salisbury and stepped up to the Western League. This proved to be quite a different challenge—whereas before they had only competed against local teams in league competition, they now faced opposition from teams as far afield as Avon, Somerset and Devon as well as the reserve teams of league clubs such as Bristol Rovers, Bristol City and Torquay United. They generally fared well, only failing to finish in the top half of the table twice during their time at this level. Their first season in the Western League saw the club reach the first round proper of the FA Cup for the only time in their history after defeating Hendon 5–4 in a fourth qualifying round replay. On 3 November, Fourth Division side Gillingham came to the Walled Meadow and won 1–0 in front of 3484 spectators, a figure which would remain as the club's largest attendance for a home game. In the league Andover finished fourth, but that was their highest placing until 1969–70 when they finished as runners-up." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andover_F.C
Fair enough with the lower leagues but this is international football. Absolutely no excuses for the chronic inability to even control a ball. Too many good pitches and proper balls, growing up trying to get hold of a "Super Tele" or the like bouncing off concrete or dirt makes for a better class of player.
Goal for Vargas and an assist from Isla after Chile's 5-0 win v Venezuela Suk Young played 45 minutes in a 1-0 friendly v Jordan
It all adds to the entertainment They have introduced a longer spread of games over an international weekend to make more money? Why are they doing this? Money? They don't care about the Faroe Islands or Gibraltar
