Give a helping hand to young, middle-class people unable to afford upper class attire by donating to Children in Tweed tonight. An incredibly worthwhile cause!

Ugh Children in Need, one of the most boring TV events of each year. Nothing against the aim of the thing or the charities it supports, but the event is one massive snooze. Comic Relief some funny stuff on that, Children in Need boring as ****.

Plus it promotes the use of Fearne Cotten who should be banned from public.

A lot of these prominent charities are a sham as a disproportionate amount of the money they raise (i.e. very little of it) is actually given to the people who need it and to whose advantage they say they are working for. The best thing to do if you want to give back or help someone vulnerable is get out there physically and do something in your local community or go abroad on a voluntary working holiday, they can't cream off your hard work like they can with your money.

Ahh childen in need, gov gives banks billions in bailots and children, young and old people can go f** themselves but hey ho we'll run a guilt op on the public and let them bail out people as well as the banks.

I got nothng against donating to children or charities because we do that in our gaff as a rule, just pointing out the f**ing scam. You got old people who just got their meals on wheels support cut who are donating more than Tory politicians who just cut teir servies. f**ing sickening.

How about a whip round in Westminster, bet you'd collect more collecting donations outside a homeless shelter.

The Tories.. "Children in need, f** em, there's 100 billion pounds needed for new Nuclear weapons". The gov could wipe out UK poverty with a stroke of a pen if they so wished to not line certain pockets.

    pisses me off

    rant over

    For now

to make a point, I worked for a London based insurance corporation. We did a whipround in and would you f**ing believe £33 and change was all that was collected, this was for children, was in 2007. The money earned in this palce was astronomical, all bigwigs.

    f**ing disgusting

meanwhile pensioners on the breadline are sending what little they can that actually means they go short themselves.

  9. They all get paid to present but it was reported that Terry Wogan is the only one that doesn't donate it back.

The reason I started this thread was because I hate the guilt trip type charity appeals, whether it is children in need or the adverts for "only £3 a month". Most of the £3 goes to the chief executives pension pot or to run a political agenda said charity was never set up to get involved in. Donations to local charities were you can see the difference the money makes are better.

I also agree with Sisu (I know some of you will be staggered by this) that the people who have a lot tend not to give much to charity as a rule, as a proportion of their income. I work in an company were the lower level employees earn around £16k. Top of the tree execs on our UK board earn £1m plus, the rest of us are somewhere in between. Whenever there is a retirement kitty the lower paid staff might put a tenner in if they have worked with a person a long time, the people earning 10 times more will put a fiver in if your lucky. I once saw a bloke who earns £250k plus put a fiver in then take change out!

I once had a man knock on my door wanting me to sponser a donkey for £2 a month. I felt a bit mischevious so asked him in, made him a coffee and and had a long chat about sponsering donkeys. Then I said sorry, I'm not interested. They run on comission so I ****ed an hour off his day (and improved my knowledge on donkeys!). He was a weird fellow, knew more about donkeys than I know about my own Mrs (nm).

    Maybe he had Columbian roots

I like a bit of tweed, but there's no way I want to see it adopted by the chavs, so I'm out

Can't stand national make you feel guilty charidee events. Lets all dress up as batman whilst stacking shelves, it'll be a hoot. Ooh look at me getting me head shaved, aren't I hilarious. I'm sat in a bath of beans me, f**ing out there I am. <doh>

f** off with the lot of it.

I decide what causes I want to support and I then donate via salary sacrifice, without a fuss and without the need for a bath of beans.

You see that's a classic example. Getting maimed for life in the name if charidee, and the actual charity didn't actually benefit by a bean (no pun intended) and that's a common theme in these sort of 'events'. I got dressed up in a pink tutu all day, dead good it was. How much did you raise? No idea. Brilliant.

A sponsored parachute jump is quite common - it basically translates to 'I've always wanted to jump out a plane but can't afford it, If I do it in the name of Charity, I may get enough to do it - but unfortunately won't be able to donate a penny to whatever charity I decide'!

I wont be donating because of this......:-

BBC Children in Need has kept £87.7million stashed away in its investment portfolio instead of giving it directly to charity, its latest accounts reveal.

The charity, which has raised more than £600million for youngsters in the UK since 1980, is preparing to launch a fresh appeal to viewers next month.

But some donors may be surprised to discover it does not give the money directly to good causes

Also comic relief invest in tobacco and weapons companies so they'll be getting f all as well...rather give what i can to Claire House

I do the same. Have certain charities that I already decided to donate to and have a regular direct debit, and it's what I tell those ****ing chuggers who make it hell to walk through the city centre when they're out. Gets rid of them.
