Alonso is desperate for a quick championship just to justify his years of toil at Ferrari, and Button is the casualty. Premature or not, it's inevitable.
AS a Button fan I understand the attraction of having Alonso and dont dispute that he is another level on Button, however Ron is not delivering on his mission statement to have the best possible driver line up, regardless of whether Mag is the future or not.
Spotted this article (http://www1.skysports.com/f1/report...before-introducing-customer-cars-in-20168217-) over at Sky Sports F1 News Isn't that ruled out by this bit from the regs?
There is a clause is some dusty old document that states that if the field drope below a certain number of teams/competitors there is the option for other teams (based on their status with Bernie or however the tier is justified) to supply a third car. I'm not sure how the tier is calculated but I'm pretty sure its Ferrari & RB first then McLaren & Williams and then Merc - I'm sure someone could clarify.
WebberJensonButton matey just sign that sports car contract and get on with it. Be mega to have you with/against us next year.#greatracing #JB22
Grosjean confirmed at Lotus for 2015: please log in to view this image Although the tweet got deleted almost instantly bizarrely, so perhaps (seeing as it's clearly a PR-written tweet) it was meant to be delayed to coincide with other media outlets? If he was back-up for Mclaren, presumably he's no longer required in that capacity?
So Jenson just replied to that with "One day fella one day!!" Intriguing. Doesn't read like he's expecting to be in WEC next year.

Well there's an underwhelming pic if ever I saw one. If not for the Honda logos on the side you'd still think it was a "merc" McLaren.
Apparantly this is purely about getting to grips with early teething problems and inatallation of the power unit. All the aero and livery is to one side getting ready for next season.
I wonder how many laps they did. If it didn't break down they are doing better than the Renault's unveiling.
Looks like not too many bodywork changes so packaging must be pretty close to the Merc engine. Just a few extra cooling fins at the back by the looks of it.
McLaren's livery has been crap for years anyway, ever since they lost the west sponsorship in fact. Really hope they go either back to the Marlboro colours from their last time with Honda, or go Orange. Orange just works on an F1 car.
