Chap on SaintsWeb claims to know someone in the analysis dept. who says that as of today, Paul has left the club.

As soon as I heard about it, I could see it would be a job that you don't turn down. He is an employee not a fan.

Makes sense if he's gone...you get the bum's rush. He wouldn't be doing any good here....might as well get him out of the building. Might prevent Les Reed being arrested for head butting him :) Now, Reed is one I hope we keep.

Only thing I'm worried about is Mitchell taking the knowledge of our transfer targerts to Tottenham.

Targett is being guarded :) Hope they searched his pockets to make sure he doesn't have a black box on his person.

There was probably some form of NDA written into his contract (or should have been for an executive at that level).

on the basis it's tottenham or because another person for some reason wants to keep working with pinocchio?

tbf, we signed tadanari, gaston, forren, and pablo under his watch, so it's not like we're losing some magical infallibility.

Southampton is set up so that we are not reliant on individuals. I can't see this making much difference. All the same data will be there for the next guy.

The more worrying element is mentioned on saintsweb, in that mitchell wasn't just head of recruiting players. Levy might just have taken the first step to taking as many of our staff as he can.

It's not so much a problem in terms of Tottenham improving quickly, but in terms of the damage it could do to us in the short term if it happens.

Even as an employee though it's clear the foundations are being set for a long successful future here isn't it more fulfilling to be here than be part of a set up that if it doesnt produce anything after January will also no doubt be disbanded in the summer? It's likely my Saints bias but the fact people still are just jumping off to "bigger" teams baffles me. What if Saints get to the CL? Wouldn't we be a big team!?

You could look at it the way I look at pinocchio.

The man's management style was of utility to the squad we had and he probably wouldn't have had a clue how to rebuild a squad the way Koeman has done. He jumped ship while everyone believed his hype, before a summer of poor transfer dealings and losing his best players would lead inevitably to the sack again.

Mitchell currently is receiving plaudits for his approach to setting up an infallible scouting system and might feel the club's reality distortion field (tm apple) is giving him disproportionate profile so he's taking the money while he can and it'll be a while before what he's building at Tottenham is under real scrutiny.

I have never bought into "I want to go to a bigger club", "I want to work with ,,,,", "I want to go and win things"
Let's face it, its all about money/wages. These guys are no different to you and me. The big clubs pay silly money at all levels of their employee structure and no doubt Leiy has thrown a great deal at Mitchell in order to save Spurs from wasting even more cash on poorly researched transfers.
Mitchell will need time as there is no structure there art the moment and Levy isn't the most patient of bosses so good luck to him and hope he enjoys his vastly increase salary as we all would.

Let's move on and replace him whilst protecting our intellectual property

Bye bye, good luck with your new employers (I think you will find they may be a little different). The only issue is who is going to do Pelle's hair from now on?

There will re fairly complex clauses written into the contract. A restrictive covenant will certainly be in place (much more restrictive than an NDA) so I wouldn't worry too much about our targets getting nicked!

All of these clubs pinching people off us just reminds me of the film Moneyball where Jonah Hill's character talks about most teams misunderstanding what wins games so everyone just tried to buy the best individuals, but it's really the system that they're part of which is the most important thing. After the last year, even 18 months after Matt Crocker left I don't think we've been significantly weakened by anyone leaving because our system and infrastructure is so good.

Part of me says he's not a player so not that serious, then I remember the importance of getting the right people in, especially recently, so worry a bit more. However, the system is in place, so expect we will roll with the blow.
