Maybe they were thinking of the Marx Brothers when they were discussing a contract and they came to the "Sanity Clause" to which one of them said to "delete it as there aint no Santa Claus".

Well that does piss me off to be honest. Another ****ing Americanism. The legend has always been Father Christmas here but I reckon 95% of kids now say Santa.

I'm with you. Unless this is the Hull Massachusetts Daily Mail, heads should have rolled for that alone. Spelling mistake or no spelling mistake.

It's not actually American, it comes from Sinterklaas, the Dutch pronunciation of Saint Nicholas.

Though we can blame the yanks for him appearing as a fat bloke with a beard all dressed in red, as that came from an American cartoon in the 30's.

Well it is American, cos we don't call him Sinterklaas. I've never seen an English kid write Sinterklaas. We call him the American version Santa Claus.

Is it a myth that the present image is from Coca Cola then? I know he was always traditionally pictured in green prior to whatever changed his image

The story about the modern image of Santa being created by Coca-Cola is an urban myth, he was portrayed in a red suit and as a fat bloke hundreds of years before Coke existed.

They claim in 1862 he was a little elf in a tan suit and Coke was invented in 1886, so not hundred of years earlier. I'm sure they're looking at it from American eyes though.

This is the 1852 Thomas Nast image they refer to in that clip, it looks like Santa to me...

Though it was originally published in black and white, they didn't have colour printing back then, they've coloured it in since...

They also forgot to mention other images from the late 1860's, like this one by the same artist...

He was originally portrayed as a religious figure in the early 1800's...

And this is from an English book The Examination and Tryal of Father Christmas, published in 1686...

I think Coke like to write their own history.

And before anyone asks, you're right, I've not got much on today.

As well as the spelling mistake the way the photo is cropped makes it look like Father Christmas killed some poor bastard on his motorbike.
