****ing hell, that's painful to watch.

What I'm trying to say is that it shouldn't just be a blanket pardon when someone is deemed to have done their time and paid back society. Perpetrators of some crimes should be paying it back for the rest of their lives.

Oh absolutely which is what CRB checks etc are all about. But rape has no impact or significant risk attached to it in football profession, so since he's pad his dues I don't see how he can be blocked from signing for clubs.

I don't think he should be blocked by law. I think he should be shunned by the community personally.

The question still remains was it rape? The accused is still allowed to clear his name and below is an article that sits on the same side of the offence as I do, it makes no pretence as to either innocence or guilt. Instead it highlights massive and dangerous problems with the "too drunk to consent" case:

    http://m.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424052702304558804579374844067975558?mobile=y

It points out that there are assumptions from society at large that a woman who is drunk is always the victim but a male who is equally drunk is a victim of her drunkedness, with two people of the opposite gender he is not allowed to have the benefit of doubt. It also highlights that 3rd parties are determining the drink intoxication limits of the victims when they will never have witnessed their long term drinking habits, what they deem too drunk based on consumption levels will not apply to everyone.

It is basically saying the too drunk to consent laws are seriously flawed. There will be no jury when Ched Evans' case is reviewed and you can guarantee that everything will be challenged including the jury's ability to gauge the victims drink intoxication limit.

This case is not over by any means.

It will be reviewed by judges, can't remember how many but either three or five. His legal team will have the opportunity to highlight anything they believe constituted an unfair trial, that can be anything from evidence being ignored to police procedures not being followed.

He has exhausted the appeals procedure and if he wants to take it further he needs to apply for his case to be heard by the Criminal Case Review Commission, to do that he will need to convince them that there is new evidence which was not considered at his original trial <ok>

Completely agree! This was not a clear cut rape case whatsoever, and the media fail to mention that when plastering it everywhere.

He is a t**t but is entitled to work and football is all he has ever known. We don't stop brickies plying their trade when they are released, why footballers? "Because he is a role model"... No he isn't, no footballer is, and if you make them a role model or look at them as one, that's your fault and your asking to be let down. They don't get into the game as 9 year olds to grow up and be a personal role model, a professional one maybe but not a personal one. People should have the intelligence to look over time at the biggest names in football, maradonna, best, gazza, Rooney, the list goes on... And see these are not individuals to be looked up to for anymore than their talents of kicking a ball.

I think it's dangerous when patrons and Jessica Ennis have their say so publicly as they are open to law suits for suggesting a supposedly reformed convict isn't allowed to make a living based on their own personal ideals and beliefs.

I also don't think he was guilty to be honest. If you read the whole story, this is not a squeaky clean innocent young woman, she is the type we see far too much of these days who seek out footballers! She went to a hotel willingly with these men, what did she think she was going for? To play cards? It sounds politically incorrect but she is a tart who has muddied the distinction in my view between actual rape (something decent people deplore and too many women are harsh victims of) and not remembering whether she gave consent or not.

I started off agreeing with your view that Evans is entitled to work but you lost me with your misogynist comments about the victim.

Evans is a convicted rapist, so your views about whether that conviction is right or wrong are not relevant.

The victim is entitled, just the same as any man, to get drunk, befriend people or go to a hotel room, however ill advised, but none of which are illegal acts, without suffering rape.

I believe that I am a decent person, and I deplore the act of rape to any degree, whether it be violent or taking advantage of a person who is unfit to consent.

You also have a strange idea about what constitutes a role model. Whether you like it or not, role models don't choose themselves, people choose their role model including children, who will copy what they see their idols do, say or wear <ok>

If his conviction is over turned I hope Ennis and the other bandwagon jumpers, are as quick to apologise to the man, as they were to condemn him - despite him having paid his dues.

In their opinion they do not want to be associated with anything connected to the guy. If that means walking away from their beloved team then I applaud them for principles.
Even if the judges or whoever overturned the decision they would probably stick to their principles.

I am a Hull supporter and a few years ago we was linked with Joey Barton.
I said to my pals if we sign him then I stop going. My principles said I can't pay to watch him play for my team after all the **** he had caused over the years.

In this instance she claims to have been too drunk to consent/ Now that, in itself, is a massive can of worms. I lost my virginity to a girl who was absolutely hammered. She invited me back to hers and seemed quite puzzled that I was there in the morning before I explained what had happened. Now by that means, she could've claimed the same and I would've been "guilty" of rape - even though she openly consented to it - she couldn't remember.

My mate also met a girl in a club (he was 20) and did what used to be done in those days and had CID knocking on his door 2 weeks later as she was only 15 - in an over 18's nightclub. She claimed to have told him (I was with him and lived in the same student flat and I know for certain that she didn't) so the police, regardless of any evidence, arrest him for indecent assault and he spends 3 months inside for it. Conviction for sleeping with an underage person he met in a nightclub - all he was guilty of was not asking her for ID! He's not guilty of what he in convicted of as he did nothing wrong (and, let's be honest, who knows how old these youngsters are simply by looking!)

If his conviction was overturned what 'principles' would they be standing by exactly? As he'd be an innocent man.........

    <applause> - spot on Tobes.

Regardless of what the outcome of the appeal is, some people would still stick to their opinions of him.

Also regardless of what happens, can you imagine the stick he's going to get wherever he plays. I remember Titus Bramble getting so much stick from all over the place and he was never found guilty of anything with or without appeal!

The choruses of "She said No, Evans, She said No" will be sung wherever he plays in this country.

Marcus, Evans is currently a convicted rapist who must sign the Sex Offender Register for the rest of his life and will be subject to the conditions of that and his licence.

He is not prohibited from continuing work as professional footballer and therefore should be allowed to continue his career although there will be some times he will need permission or to be supervised when carrying out parts of that role, such as working with under eighteens, community or hospital visits etc.

I suspect that no club will employ him at the moment, but I do believe his legal team have submitted an application to the Criminal Case Review Commission along with new evidence which was not considered at his original trial.

If his conviction is deemed unsafe and overturned by the CCRC, he will be an innocent man, he may be compensated but he will continue his career with impunity.

We may not agree with the law but it is there to protect all of us, including those convicted of offences.

What really irks me about this case (aside from the fact that imo the bloke is actually innocent) is that it's become a Daily Mail style bandwagon for the permanently offended and politically motivated to jump on and spout their righteous indignation.

Lee Hughes was convicted (rightly) of killing someone.....and yet there was nowhere near the outcry that there has been over Evans when he returned to the game.

Just because you think he is innocent doesn't mean that he is.

He was convicted of rape therefore he is guilty <ok>
