They are lovely. But then they should be. They get repaired every year, for some reason...

Hahaha.

Surely someone didn't seriously suggest Shields was anything other than a **** tip.

I love the city of Newcastle, amazing place, not it's fault it's full of toothless, soap dodging fatties.

With crabs.

Oi! That's my home town, ya bastad. Incidentally, I was reading in tonight's Evening Standard that Muhammed Ali had his third marriage blessed in a mosque in Shields when he was on a UK visit back in the day. Never knew that...

This is exactly why I don't want to be dragged into a slanging match with you lot. I actually like some of you.

Now, I come on the sunderland board often, probably even more than the Newcastle board. I bite my tongue many a time in case I overstep the mark and offend some of you after someone has posted a cheap jibe at Newcastle. At the end of the day, I'm black and white and will defend Newcastle to the hilt. Without question. I can't stand SAFC, the same as you can't stand us. I'll probably give this thread a wide berth.

That was me suggesting the 5 yards of Shields closest to the sea is okay <laugh>

As for Newcastle, you're not wrong. You're in a good position to know though, as at the end of a long hard week and getting none from your Mrs, I just know you hang around the Bigg Market chippy waiting for the loosest looking slag to come out. Free chips and a shag is your thinking, can't go wrong.

Or is that me?

I don't think he was responsible Somb, it's a bit of banter, I didn't think any Geordie would be stupid enough to take it seriously <ok>

I was born in Newcastle, it only took me a couple of weeks to get out though, I couldn't stand the smell <ok>

We qualified for the UEFA cup in 1970 because we won that cup. Can't believe a mackem is trying to play trump cards on European football.

Say what you like Somb, no offence will be taking.

Whatever **** is slung I guarantee that if we all went and sat in a boozer, 99% of us would get on, cos NE folk, generally, are great people.

We all wanna think we buck the prettiest lass, the reality is, none of us do.

Let's stop talking crap and chat about facts. Shola Ameobi has scored more European goals than Sunderland AFC.

You got in because of the one club one city rule, you finished tenth 1967/68 <ok>

That Newcastle were in the competition at all was something of a mystery. In 1967-68, they finished 10th, but because of the Fairs’ Cup’s “one club, one city” rule, Newcastle scraped in. Liverpool (3rd) and Leeds (4th) were both qualifiers, Everton (5th) were not permitted, Chelsea (6th) were in, Tottenham (7th) were not permitted, WBA (8th) had qualified for the European Cup Winners’ Cup, Arsenal (9th) were not permitted, so the final place went to 10th placed Newcastle!

Edit: sorry Somb I misunderstood your post, yes you qualified for the UEFA cup through the Fairs cup <ok>

Another fact. We don't care. And NUFC paid Shola squillions over the years :)

Truth is, I'd love a stab at the Europa. But it would really **** us up if it happened. Boro and Fulham got to the final and look where they are now.

This isn't any form of achievement though, and is as such not an insult. Try harder.

To be fair bud, everyone says that but if you aren't striving for European football there's hardly any point existing at all. It's not the be all and end all but our year in the Europa (and the incredible season that got us there) was the most 've enjoyed watching Newcastle since the Robson days. Football is about those memories, those nights, like Benfica, and we didn't even win but it will stick with me forever. When Benfica notched the equaliser to end our hopes, there was 5 seconds of silence then the fans rose as one, applauding the players as they trudged back to the halfway line. Special night.
12/13 season. You only sold out your stadium once. For the big boys.

With all that history and success, it's incredible is it not that people would rather spend 15 quid in the pub watching than go along to the flatpack, 10,000 of a kind heap of crap you call a stadium?
