Well, any new deal will have a minimum fee release clause.

Fine by me. If it ensures a good price and that he doesn't go somewhere like Spurs, I'm cool with it.

    Minimum release clause: £35M
    No European football release £20M

Is this the kind of gamble the club would take to keep him happy? Remember, right now he's our prisoner with no clauses!

Well, he's certainly not going to fall for the "gentleman's agreement" again.

Morgan has, to me, always been honest about what he wants. His latest quote is no different. Hope he stays, as any employee you try to match his expectations with our own. We get CL Football he will probably stay. He knows he is good enough, we have also know his quality from when he first signed.

    Fonte's our top earner (on only £45,000!), that's why he's loyal. :)

Please don't ever preface £45,000 per week with an only. :)

Compared to the "big" clubs (and QPR!).

I won't begrudge Morgan anything. In 6 years at the club he has been Magnifique and one little slip on twitter won't undo that for me. He is playing supremely well and if he stayed, then wow... wonderful, however he is out of the very top drawer and if he had an opportunity to play at the very top (assuming we don't get there), I would not begrudge him.

I said from very early on in his career that he oozed class. So proud he is ours and hopefully he dos stay longer than the end of the season, but if not, he goes with my blessing.

100% agree. Morgan has done more than enough on the pitch to make up for that tweet, and that's just this season.

And it really is just one tweet, n'est pas? Other than that he has been 100% for us.

Can't see him staying beyond the end of the season and wouldn't be surprised if there's an agreement he can leave if a CL club makes an offer then. Just hope when he goes it's not to Spurs or Liverpool - he's better than that

Spot on, I've been telling people (non Saints fans) since League 1 how good a player he will become, and he's very quickly becoming that world class complete midfielder. I'm so glad that he didn't go to Spurs in the Summer as he deserves (and will get) a MUCH bigger club this Summer. If it's England I hope it's Arsenal as he will flourish in that team.

And to think Spurs offered £15million... <laugh><laugh>

I wouldn't be surprised if that offer was made to calm him down, but Les Reed was in a moody by then, so he may have been offered nothing. In fact, Morgan said (in a French interview) that it was made clear to him that they would see him in the gutter rather than sell him. However, we will be one year nearer the end of his contract, so we may accept a good offer in the belief that we can manage without him.

45k a year for playing football, seems reasonable to me.

    Wait, what!?!?!

can't see the point in going into contract talks if it means adding clauses. If he wants to leave in the summer we'll be getting decent money anyway and any clauses he wants inserted would not be on the high side would they. He is hardly going to agree to a clause saying £35m if Saints in CL nor is it in our interest to put a £20m if not in europe clause in.

He has a contract till 2017 so by all means Saints can test the water by offering more money with VERY high clauses in it but otherwise, end of season we hold out for the amount we want.

Je suis totalement d'accord, FLT. I couldn't understand why it took so long for people to recognise his ability. A great player to watch, and a man of integrity. The French press are beginning to discover him, and my Schneiderlin France shirt no longer draws quizzical looks in the Super U. If we could play CL football next season and Morgan stayed as a consequence I would be one lapin tres content! If not, I hope he goes to Real Madrid.
