John Charles has been voted best foreign player ever

It has been announced today that surprise surprise John Charles has been voted the best foreign player ever not bad when you consider Maradona Zidane were on that list as well as Di Stephano Puskas etc

 

I met the great man, who was sat having a cuppa in an old part of the west stand back in the 1980's. I'm still amazed that he was not treated like royalty by the club as this area was by no means the executive area at the club.

I thought the West stand was named the John Charles stand

 

Think you're right there Shako although the club seem to have stopped using that name.

 

I'm sure I was there when he was introduced to the crowd at halftime, don't remember if it was to coincide with the naming of the stand though..

The west stand was renamed the John Charles stand .The reason for this when the old stand was raised to the ground in 1955 the insurance only paid so much we were 65000k pound short this was raised by selling John to Italy
