I mentioned this on the transfer thread, but I think it deserves a thread. Wilshere's constant moaning at the ref has got to a point where I actually despise him and his antics on the pitch. He is constantly in the ref's face acting like a spoiled child, instead of getting on with the bloody game. The guy wastes so much energy crying to the ref, and the refs never ever listen to him, he just gets ignored, but that does not deter Wilshere from his antics.

If he was not playing for us, I bet to a man we would despise him and his actions on the field. The media ignore it because he is English and Wenger continues to ignore it because he is blind. He came on as a sub against Swansea and his sole contribution in that game was moaning at the ref over a nothing incident, instead of focusing on getting us a point and getting on with the game. I think if Wilshere would just shut up and focus on the game, he would be better for it and would not waste needless energy crying.

Possibly the most overrated English player... Up there with Lallana and Rooney.

If he backed his annoying traits with quality play it wouldn't grate as much.

I love wilshere as a player but despise him as a person I see him as a little weasel I thought I was the only person who noticed this I also see him squaring up to players twice the size of him shouting what ever at them when in reality if that was a Sunday league match he would say nothing to them as he knows what would happen

To be honest, when I see Wilshere squaring up to people twice his size that is something I like seeing in him....Though I agree if he was an opposition player we'd all hate him lol, pretty much like how we react when Rooney squares up to the ref or loses his cool.

But having said that, he is massively overrated, he was never a top top player even in his breakthrough 2009-2010 season, he wasn't that special, and a large chunk of fan favour towards Wilshere at Arsenal is down to him being English, don't know how the **** he won our best player award that year. the guy had like 3 goals, and maybe not even 5 assists, talk about blind fan judgement.

He's a good player but needs to back it with consistent solid performances. If he wasn't English then I doubt he would be playing as much for us. The early hype really helped him in getting in the team. Again, not saying he's a bad player but when you compare him with other promising foreign young players, then his performances do not match at a constant level.

I don't think anyone believes he is a bad player, no doubt he's a good player, but that's just it, he's just good, average at most times, nothing spectacular, nothing world class, and certainly not elite. Because he is English, when he does produce that one moment of brilliance, he gets so hyped up and people go on about oh there is that special talent see he's got it, rather than simply looking at it as once example of a player managing to pull of something great.

If his career didn't start off at Arsenal as well he wouldn't be receiving as much hype, a case in point is someone like Stewart Downing, if that guy started off at a United or Arsenal then he too would constantly be overhyped and people would say he has that untapped potential and just needs to be consistent, but because he started at a smaller club, eventually that hype died down when he didn't perform as expected for Liverpool.

Exactly, there lies the problem of the hype train that is English football. The only one that was truly special was Rooney when he first burst onto the scene, but everyone went so over board with him that he never truly matched his so called potential long enough on the pitch. Poor old Walcott got the treatment a fair few years back when he made a no show in the World cup under smooth Sven. The truth is he was never quite there or ready but that didn't stop the hype train from hitting him hard. It took how many years for him to become a first teamer for Arsenal? It wasn't like we was bursting with quality either at the time....

Maybe. In his breakthrough and best season, he was never really in the ref's face like he is these days. Just got on with the game.

I would hate for this to turn out as another 'anti-Ramsey' type campaign like we had a couple of seasons back, but Wilshere has only got himself to blame. If he concentrated on exploiting the obvious talent he does have instead of indulging in arguing with the ref/opposition players and crumpling like a broken butterfly each time any opponent waves at him we would be seeing and benefiting from his talents. It's his attitude and he controls it. The same can be said for one or two others in the squad.

I've always felt that Wilshere isn't fully up to speed, and because he's a yard off the pace (or hasn't got the confidence to stretch/push it that extra yard) then he gets caught with little tackles or knocks that he'd previously have glided past. I think because he's getting kicked/knocked so much more (fairly in the most) then he's getting frustrated and taking it out on the ref instead of looking at his own performance.

That's just my opinion, but I do think if he does get his fitness back fully without getting injured again then he'll get beyond this just like Ramsey did.

No one is going after Wilshere but you can't ignore that he hasn't lived up to his potential so far. I do think he's a fine player but he really needs to concentrate and put in more consistent performances now. He needs to translate that potential into match winning performances, like Ramsey did last year. The same goes for pretty much most of our players this season, there has been too many sub-par performances going on. Players like Cazorla, Ramsey, Ozil, Podolski, OXO (not consistent enough), Flamini etc need to start stepping it up. We can't just rely on Sanchez to do most of the work.

I agree too many of our players have been off form this season - I was really hoping that Cazorla would really step up, but he's been very poor. And for some reason Ramsey hasn't kept up the same form as last year.

It's been really disappointing from the majority of our players, we're lucky that we have Sanchez and that Chambers has fitted in so well (and Debuchy when he was fit). But we really need to see Ramsey, Wilshere, Cazorla, Merts and Oxo really kick on now.

Not sure what to do about the DM position, Flamini really needs to develop some discipline and positional sense, whereas Arteta has this mostly but hasn't got the legs/physicality.

That's true, rather than kicking on from the FA cup win, they've started off this season in a very disappointing manner. We've been struggling to maintain leads and come back from losing positions to draw, not the most promising start to a season. Sanchez in some ways has masked the poor performances of the players. Take him away and they really don't have anywhere to hide. Welbeck and Chambers have made promising starts but the support they are getting is not good enough.

As for the DM spot, it's time for Wenger to be tough and clear the decks. In my opinion it's time to jettison Flamini, Rosicky, Pod, Arteta and Diaby. Maybe being harsh on Arteta but we really need to bring in quality that will contribute rather than just be there, or try to fit players in positions they are not natural in.

I think Rosicky offers a lot off the bench and as a squad player - and I can see the justification for keeping Arteta, with his experience and standing in the squad, but he should only be a squad player with a truly outstanding DM as a starter, or if none were available (like Bender doesn't seem to be) then a young up and coming DM who has got the skills/physicality and is very promising.

I think our biggest problem, and its a crazy one for us to have, is being unable to keep the ball! We've been shockingly poor in the midfield with most of our 1st choice midfielders giving the ball away cheaply, failing with simple passes or over complicating things. This has meant our patched up defence is always under pressure or likely to be stretched, and it has also lead to our uninspired attacks as our attacks break down when a ball is played behind the player, or easily intercepted.

I keep thinking back to the start of last season, and the glorious way players played off Giroud, with Wilshere, Ozil, Ramsey and Giroud playing intricate passes to unlock defences. Or when that failed Ramsey would make a late burst into the box to score. All we lacked then was pace - now we have bags of pace in Oxo, Sanchez, Walcott and Welbeck, we're lacking the composure and ball control to unlock defences!

I'm not entirely sure you can say Welbeck has made a 'promising' start. Take away that one hat-trick against Galatasaray and he has 2 goals in the 11 other games he's played. That's not promising. That's mediocre.

Scoring in 3 games of the 12 he's played in is not promising. It's mediocre.

I'm sure Podolski could have got those sorts of figures if played up front.

Our squad had mediocrity in it already... why spend £16m on more of it?

Feasibly his return might improve when we start playing better as a whole, but so far to me he's looked like a passenger player who only shows return when the rest of the team play well, rather than someone who can actually make a difference on their own and drag the team to be 'better' (like Walcott and Sanchez).

I'm not sure about that - every time Podolski has played up front he's barely moved, and our attacks have been really blunted as he doesn't create anything for himself or his team mates. Even on the wing Podolski hasn't looked good and has been showing poor form, except for against tired teams as an impact sub, which I think he's well suited for.

Agree that Welbecks stats aren't that great, which is a shame, but he definitely contributes a lot more than Podolski. £16m worth better is open to question though...

I like Rosicky but why hasn't he factored much this season It's not like our midfield has been superb this season? It's almost like Wenger doesn't think he is good enough to play for our first team any more. This is my point, if your players are not playing up to standard then another should come in his place, that's the point of having a squad. So far, players like Rosicky and Podolski haven't even be called in to play, despite our poor form this season.

Yeah I've been wondering about Rosicky and Campbell, they should have played a lot more, particularly recently.

I get the feeling Wenger likes a small team/squad and only seems to change players when its forced. It was a problem last season, we over played Ozil, Merts and Kos until their form went/they got injured.

But saying that when players come into our 1st team they seem to take a while to get up to speed, such as Verm last season, he was very poor (in comparison to his normal standard)
