Do you know the really shocking thing...if you ask any group of women, the majority will have been assaulted or threatened sexually (to varying degrees during their life). Mine was being approached by a flasher when I was only seven (I actually count that as lucky when I compare it to others experiences). The difference is that most kept quiet (I know I did) because of the fear of talking to anyone about it. One friend who only just escaped rape was scared to tell her parents; another who was raped had to talk to all male policeman and had to endure her father not able to meet her eyes. Most attacks go unreported...even today.

 

The PFA requested Evans be allowed to train with Sheffield United. I mean, I know they support players, but this is ridiculous. It seems that Sheffield United were forced into this and as a result a woman feels she can't work there and I don't blame her. Evans has maintained his innocence but the fact is he's a convicted rapist. It's like the likes of Lee Hughes and McCormack resuming their careers after being convicted of causing death by dangerous driving (which is worse IMO). McCormack (the Plymouth keeper) killed a young girl if I remember rightly. I reckon these players should have to give up being a footballer and have a normal, low paid job.

There is no way that ****ing **** should be able to ressurect his chosen career. He should be tarnished for life just as is his victim has been.

 

I knew his victims were young - so tragic. I know he didn't mean to kill them, but he was drink driving and 2 kids lost their lives. Unforgivable.

 

What if their reputation precedes them, highly likely with footballers, and they cannot even get a 'normal, low paid job'. Would you prefer that they were then paid benefits rather than being able to follow their chosen career path, pay lots of tax and not be a burden on the state?

This is exactly the reason why the club should make a stand and have nothing more to do with Evans and explain the reasons to their fans. They won't of course. The way out of this is for Evans to admit his guilt and express remorse at what happened. He has already done his time, so he personally won't suffer any more, but it will allow everyone to begin to move on and get back to a semblance of normal life. Only if he makes that move should the club allow him back.

 

Sadly social media gives a voice to those people you would normally ignore when sounding off in a spit and sawdust pub...usually ineffectual males (so obviously nobody on here ).

 

Sheffield United will obviously be reluctant to make a statement about Evans in particular whilst there is still an appeal pending, but they could have stood to one side and awaited that decision. I suspect that most United fans will hate being involved in this issue and would have preferred that the club kept out of it...their club has got into the papers for the wrong reasons. He could easily have trained as best he could privately.

 

In a word, yes. The "benefits" he would receive from being on the dole are probably not a lot more than what the tax payer had to pay to keep him in prison.

 

The net does act as gathering point for the more unpleasant variety of village idiots, and people unwilling to expose themselves as such in 'real' life. Yahoo 'news' comments probably has a population count of major city or small european state completely comprised of such people.

 

I think the fact that the club have described the petition (more than 150,000) asking for Evans not to be re-employed as "Mob Rule" says it all.

The girlfriend and family members who continue to attack and slur the victim online are of course not a mob?

Blades fans are singing "Ched Evans he F**ks when he wants. Nice for ALL those women who have been abused out there.

Another club patron of Sheffield United, Lindsay Graham, has also announced her resignation - following Charlie Webster.

 

That's shameful. Clubs are often fined for racist chants - so they should be fined for chanting that endorses violence towards women.

 

Now all women on the panel of patrons have resigned. Just men remaining.

 

My mate was told to stop singing at Brighton (I'm a little teapot I believe) a year or so back. He was outraged but eventually accepted someone could be offended by such a chant and seen as homophobic. SU obviously don't see the Ched chants as being a problem.
