is this a new interpretation or absolute info? i've not heard it framed as a move to spurs at that stage before, just as an any future club opportunity.

Mauricio knew where he was going for quite some time, as did the key circle of players - and thus the others, talk spreads.

It's been said that MP had his favourites by others before, and Jack Cork alluded to the arrival of Koeman as refreshing - I can't remember the exact words.

MP was off to Spurs and everyone knew it, Dejan also commented that they knew MP was off and that they then looked for their own moves.

The person I talk to, who is close to Jay's family, told me that Mauricio was talking to Jay's family about the fact that he'd like to work with Jay in the future. He also mentioned to both Jay and his family that he'd be departing to take the Spurs job.

100% that is the absolute info I was given, it's not my take on things.

I understand that some of you guys just need something to worry about when things are going too well.
It is indeed a long long fall from 2nd to what we have been more used to over the years and we are doing so well it may seem like a magic spell that could stop at any moment.
I say only this "You've got to believe in something, why not believe in Ronald?"

    IMO
JRod is gagging to get back to playing for a team that is playing well and is 2nd.
Mane is there to be exciting and unpredictable and create, that comes with mistakes.
(considering his age and recent arrival in the Prem his start has been great. Remember early Ronaldo at ManU)

Anything else is blind pessimism ;-)

It adds up tidily. It also makes the way he failed to sign any of our players all the more pleasing.

Ramirez said the same about Poch and was glad he had gone.

I wonder what Poch and Lallana said when they had a 'meeting' as well.

Optimisticsaint: If Jay wants to go to Spurs, then I would lose some respect for him after getting back to fitness on our payroll.

I do have to defend Jay on this issue. He got injured on our payroll, so why shouldn't he recover on it. If he had tripped over a rug or had a car accident, I would agree with you. Jay is noticeably quiet (though we must remember he is a quiet lad), so I assume he may go in the summer. I can't see him being fit for a move in January. Stays...great; leaves...so what, we are doing fine without him. What will be interesting is if we are in for another striker in January.

Nothing new then. We still don't know what's going on with Jay because he never says anything!

And if he does, we don't understand him :) I often think he is just begging someone to remove the superglue from his teeth.

1 . No - some people's opinions are not based on the reports of a new contract - they are based on info they have been told - unfortunately some people just won't have that, so try to rubbish it as hearsay.

2 . Why didn't he sign it when we did have 7 in?

3 . I too wonder why he isn't bashing the door down to sign a new contract - you either don't believe there was one or else you too would seriously question we he hasn't signed one.

4 . ah there you go ... you don't believe there was one offered.

That's fine. Just remember that last week of the transfer window. The club continually said that week that they would not sell the players core to the future. The two players they mentioned were Morgan and Jay.

Pure speculation (so what's new?) but could Jay's contract be dependent on how well he recovers from his injury? Could Saints have a clause that allowed them to pay Jay less if he is not passed fit? If so, Jay may consider that getting back to full fitness (Bionic Man anyone?), BEFORE signing anything will give him considerable leverage in any (future) negotiations.

As I said, this is pure speculation (# Shot down in flames)

If you aren't enthusiastic about Saints now, when would you be? Perhaps he feels that MP got the best out of him and he wants him as his manager...may not be at Spurs, may be at MP's next club if he leaves WHL. We'd like Jay to stay, but we don't need him. He has never played under Koeman, so we don't know if Ron would rather have the money for someone else. All will be revealed eventually, but it is nice that it isn't critical for us.

Mostly agree with this. Rodriguez got injured on duty for Saints, so Saints should pay his rehab. He doesn't owe Saints a new contract for that.

But since Saints are paying his rehab, he does owe it to Saints to put in his work and train diligently to get back. Of course, regardless of moral obligation Saints would want Rodriguez to recover fully so he can return to form with them, or if he goes so they can get the maximum fee. And Rodriguez obviously, should want to recover and pick up his career and reach his full potential. So everyone's interests are aligned anyway. It's not a problem. And from all accounts Rodriguez is chomping at the bit to get back (even if he doesn't stay).

Also Rodriguez may believe he can come back from injury better than ever, and therefore get a bigger contract-- whether from Saints or someone else. So that would just be smart. And given the turmoil at the club over the summer, I would be inclined to wait-and-see myself before jumping into a long-term commitment. So Rodriguez's refusal might more of a "Not right now" than "No never."

I really don't have a problem with him not signing a contract yet at all. He's taking a bit of a risk, but it's his career. He doesn't owe us a new contract, nor do I think it's like "Well, I can't get better than this." He definitely can, if he comes back healthy and has a good second half of the season.

He was probably leaning towards going in the summer as truthfully I think most Saints would have been had the opportunity presented itself. But it's quite possible after seeing how well Saints are doing, and if he likes Koeman that he will change his mind. Just depends on how we do, and who comes calling. I don't think he will ask for a move in January (though we might sell him if Spurs do indeed offer up 20m).

Morgan tells L'Equipe that he wants to play at a big club, but he might stay at Saints if we get into the CL. Mixture of positive and negative news...sometimes I just wish players would stay schtum....someone should tell Morgan that speaking in French doesn't mean we won't hear about it.

Its funny. We have our transfer rumour threads. The Spurs board has a transfer clearout wish list thread :)

I don't think Tottenham have any players that we would want here as first 11 and the wages that any of them would want even if we did want them would be way too much for backup players. The QPRs & Stokes of the Premier League are going to be busy in January :)
