Yes, I spotted that too and did not take too much notice as a result. This guy Ashton needs serious counselling over his obsession to unsettle Saints.
Oh boy, am I stealing that video. That's exactly been what I've been thinking for years and years [obviously without the number crunching data to prove it]. I have never been motivated by money, once I consider I have enough. And funnily enough, I have been very comfortably off, and now I'm a relative pauper, but I'm crucially f****** happy and I was actually less happy when I was better off because I didn't have time to determine my own life, I was working so hard. These days I'm resourceful [Ok, you can't short cut this, you learn how to be] and self employed, which means I get to determine what I do with my existence. That's a very interesting video in the sense that it is very good on several levels. 1] The content is sound, in my opinion. 2] The otherwise, shall we say, fast-talking-man was saying things that some people might turn off to, but the animation keeps it interesting. 3] The animation visualises the points being put across and they stay there in the head because of it. Did I mention that was a great video..?
What people don't realise is talk of wage rises is no way near the same league as with players. Doubling his would be a drop in the ocean compared to a player. If he leaves due to money it will only be because we do not think he is worth the same as spurs. Speculation only. But I would trust our board to make that call correctly Haven't read the article, is he recruitment for the kids or the first team ?
But not irreplaceable. Saints should probably be rather smug that other clubs appear to eye all of our staff, on and off the pitch, as the answer to their problems. Is this the 'elephant in the room' situation, where every other Premier League club who aspire to the top table (OK, probably not Chelsea, but give it time) are willing to believe that they have unlocked our secret, but they are unwilling to admit that the reality is that we are a very well run club, with sensible management at all levels, willing to invest, but always with an eye on the ultimate goal. No-one has noticed, by all accounts, and other clubs think that they have found the touchstone that will turn their particular base metal into gold, so they try to buy yet another quick fix. Still, long may it continue!
Always remember no one is irreplaceable. Not even the Queen of England or the President of the USA. Nor is some money grubbing minion in a small English provincial Football club.
Yeah, this. We can match what Tottenham offers if we wish. We could probably make him the highes paid Director of whatsit ever in the history of football and not worry about it too much. We were paying Cortese, after all.
Whilst money talks, I think this move would only really happen if he wanted a new challenge. Perhaps he fancies living in London working for Spurs, especially if given a free hand, or perhaps he doesn't. Or this is all fantasy. Spurs need to improve recruitment, Saints are good at this, therefore Levy must want our head of recruitment.
I saw the dead spit of Oliver Cromwell in the Brushmakers pub during the summer. I said... You say you want a revolution, well you know. We'd all love to change the world. And he wasn't that bothered.
Telegraph reporting it as done with Mitchell not answering to the Director of Football there. Can see that the challenge might appeal...you could consider his job here done now that the system is up and running. It has been said that we are an example for other clubs...if you are an example, you tend to get copied. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...h-Southampton-star-spotter-Paul-Mitchell.html
Well, whatever Levy does to disrupt us, we seem to become even stronger, and Tottenham ****tier, so maybe we should welcome this.
I can see this happen. Mitchell has done a great job here, but why would he turn down a terrific job with considerable autonomy at a big club. Head hunting happens all the time in management...you ride the wave when it is in your favour. It's not disloyalty...he would hardly be leaving us in the lurch.
Just a question could Spurs really be classed as a big club its been quite a time since they have achieved anything that would still make them a big club ?
Realistically, they are a big club with potential. I can easily see someone being attracted to the idea of helping them rebuild. I actually can't see why he wouldn't go to Spurs...unless an even bigger side wanted him.
Ok I see your point but they have been faffing around for some years now changing managers buying poorly and poor old Poch is questioning their mentality issues and now even the supporters are questioning Levy and his methods I wouldn't be leaving the coast and roaring up the road in a Polaris missile to join them - maybe Mitchell might feel he has done what most would agree is a fantastic job with us so the lure of pastures new might make him move on I hope not....
The team underperforming won't deter him...makes it easier for him to make an impact. Of course, he could just turn out to be another person that we make look good
Surely, for this to work, for Mitchell, Levy would need to decide on a style of play, then ensure all his teams and future managers play to that style. No point in having Mitchell set up a system, that seeks out players that are suitable for the likes of Pochettino, tika, taka) then, at a future date, employ a manager that prefers to play a more direct style.
I get he might want a new challenge, but Spurs? He'll be suggesting good players only to have Levy popping his head in the office asking if there are any players just as good for half the price. Mitchell: I've found the new Messi. Only £10M! Levy: Can I get him for £2M? Mitchell: Erm, no? Levy: What can you get me for £2M? Mitchell: There's this lad who plays quite a lot like Dowie? Levy: Will they take £1M? Mitchell: They'll take a packet of chips and a quick fumble behind the bike sheds. Levy: What size packet of chips?
