Have to say I've tended to side with Westy abit on this one, I haven't quite seen what all the hype is about yet, to me he looks a very raw talent, who looks very naive at times whereas Cressy was more measured. All the games I've seen him in I thought he looked a bit of a donkey tbh, although I can see there is definitely some talent there. I have to say I was most impressed with his performances against Watford not because he was outstanding but because his positional and defensive play seems to have improved significantly since the start of the season. We definitely have missed Cresswell this year or more with him in the team we'd definitely be stronger although we are certainly not so one dimensional and others have stepped up to create more this year when you consider so many goals came from him last year. He is consistently the best player we've had at Ipswich I would argue since the Burely era
Er no we haven't! If we have missed Cressy so badly why are we currently 4th in the league? Cressy had a pretty average season last year IMO and Mings has been a fantastic replacement.
What an unquantifiable argument, we'd be a stronger team with Cresswell in it than Mings. He did alright for an average season having the top number of assists in the division. As I said others have upped their game this season but we'd be a better team with him in than Mings
Weaker with Mings at LB, sorry but I can't agree with that, Cressy was a class act and by all accounts has settled in well in the PL but to say we are weaker with Mings there is utter nonsense, Mings already has a number of assists to his name, with the amount of teams scouting him week in week out would suggest you are wrong on this one PTC! Mings is a real handful marauding forward and the defensive side of his game is already at the level of Cressys?
Arsenal step up interest in 10 million rated youngster...........Mings if he keeps improving at this rate he will be the World Cup winning captain ...........whenever the next World Cup is.
I have to agree with the pro Ming theme. He has come on enormously. I have seen him play live only 4 times tbh, but..... He is young, a huge talent to work on, fit, a big physical presence, really goes forward and gets in amongst the oppo defense, and...incredulously, passes forward/angles to feet far more than shall we say Skuse does! In my book, just the type of player we must keep for at least 1 more season...embedd his total loyalty...and then, when we have our ducks lined up, sell him for min £10m in say 2016!
I'm sort of with ptc on this... Mings has had a handful of good games for us.. a handful of good games in his career in fact. He could as easily fall apart as reach the dizzy heights that his early form has got us salivating over him. Cressy for me has been our most consistent player since Matt Holland and his quick acclimatisation to the Premier league shows what a talent he is. Clearly Mings is a 'hot prospect' and has adapted to championship life impressively and continues to grow into the left back role impressively... and long may it continue. But we have seen such 'hot prospects' not live up to their hype so I would say that Cresswell's impressive 3 seasons sit above Mings' impressive 3 months at this stage. If Mings can continue his upward trajectory then that view could soon change (That is the big 'if' though)
but KOPR, do you think we have missed Cressy this season? I think in a strange way it has improved us as a team because we are now more balanced in the producing of goals, rather than relying on a cressy cross from the left. Don't get me wrong, Cressy will always be one of those players that we as fans remember fondly, but we as a team look so much more balanced without him, and mings has stepped into shoes in a way that nobody would have guessed.
I would say we have an haven't really. Mings does offer a different skillset, particularly with his athleticism, so possibly fits into a Mick system easier. The team seems to have taken to him as quickly as he has to championship football so the side plays a slightly different style to previous seasons. Cressy is a more technically gifted footballer, but that is to be expected given his minutes on the pitch in comparison. I think Mings has the potential to develop into a better player than Cressy given his physical profile but is still some way off Cressy in some areas (positional intelligence for one, though his pace gets him out of trouble) It's clear that Cressy needed to move on for his own development, though I don't think many were quite aware as to how much his move would benefit Mings' development
Whilst I was a big fan of Creswell and very sorry to see him go his overall displays last season indicated he had peaked at Town and was too comfortable, a move up to the PL was what he needed to advance his game. As to Mings I have to say he is one of the most exciting prospects I've seen come into the side for many years.Yes his pace gets him out of trouble a bit but his positional sense/reading of the game is impressive given he's still only 21.He made a vital interception coming across to cover at right back late on on Saturday.Yes he's prone to the odd howler but the positives far outweigh the negatives.
Arsenal are the front runners to sign Ty apparently! http://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-news/26171/arsenal-again-watch-mings I cant see him getting much first team football there for the first season at least unless they rate him above their own Kieron Gibbs! He's better off staying at Town and getting promoted with us.
No thanks! We need to keep our best players for when we get into the Premier League and I see Ty as being potentially the best English Left Back in the country if he carries on at this rate! Evans has indicated that we are not interested in selling our best players and I will be very surprised if this changes in the January window. If Town are in the top 2 or top 6 in January then we will be keeping our players and indeed adding one or two for the final push. Evans wants this club in the Premier League and this is the first time we have had this opportunity since he bought us! There is no way that he will put this at risk imo.
Evans did not sell in the summer when around 10M (combined) was on the table, I can't see him changing his view if we are still in and around the play off picture in January.!
Quite an obsession you have with us ,not content with camping on our board you even derail your own threads by talking about us. Why don't you all form a circle and give each other a reach around to celebrate your greatest achievement in 5 years. I shudder to think what you would be like if you were to actually beat us ...
Strangely enough left back is an area where we are well covered. It wouldn't surprise me if Tyrone was sold in the winter or at the end of the season. Not saying it's what I want but if his sale generates a large amount of cash for re-investment then I would be cool with that.
What, 3 throw away comments in the middle of a thread with 36 replies... I think we have differing concepts of derailing and obsessions. I'd recommend some further reading on the subject. The Oxford dictionary is a fascinating read
