I know, it was tongue-in-cheek. I only notice his brilliance by his absence from my awareness.

Similarly, another thing about him is that he doesn't seem to make any killer tackles; he doesn't seem to let matters get to the point where he might need to. It's a sign of greatness IMO.

Just reading Talksports article suggesting the move might be blocked. Seems a very strange contract indeed - full of potential loopholes surely?

But that means Aguero will definitely play. I think I'd rather have Dzeko in and Aguero "rested"! In fact I absolutely would.

Going back to the original post though, that would be an absolute coup if we can get him on board, particularly for the price agreed on the loan deal - complete steal.

Alderweireld: "Zit in een van mijn beste periodes"

[Sigh] Without running to the translator, I'm going to guestimate that says...

"I am in one of my best periods"

...which might seem an odd way of describing a period in time for a footballer and how one is doing within it, but every language has its own way of expressing itself. Of course, I expect I'm significantly incorrect here.

And now off to that translator.

Atletico Madrid have Godin, Miranda and Gimenez who is very highly rated. Toby would be 3rd choice at best, but probably 4th. Also you are quoting TalkShit.

I read the same article (from Talksport) - as I read it, it suggests that Athletico Madrid have realised that Toby is actually rather good, so they may not want to let him go for the current 'headline' fee, if they can get Southampton into a bidding war with other clubs.

It may even be simpler than that, in that the Talksport reporter (I use the term loosely) has interpreted Toby's existing Athletico Madrid contract as containing some loophole, has noticed that Toby is playing well, and has created a story about Athletico Madrid being able to trigger the clause that allows them to charge more, should they so wish. What we need here is a top-notch negotiator - has Nicola got a new job yet?

Not quite FLT. Zit means Sit [of course, how could I have not known that..? :)]

If I had known that it probably would have thrown me completely.

Isn't there any way that the contract locks them in..? Like a contract is actually supposed to do..?

I was wondering the same thing.

I had thought that the deal between the clubs was done; it was just down to Toby. I may have been wrong.

I'm a little late to this so I might be making a few assumptions.

As I understand it, there is a talkSport article out there which suggests that Atletico can renegade on a so-called agreement, [short of a contract] if they fancy their out-of-favour player once again, whereby Saints can purchase Alderweireld for £6.3M at the end of the season if they want to.

Whereas, as I also understand it, from the articles on the Southampton OS, this agreement is a contract, and Atletico can do nothing if Saints and the player want to agree terms, but Atletico get £6.3M out of it if we do.

The media always want to cloud the bloody issue. :(

And by the way, just because a defender plays absurdly well for Southampton doesn't mean that he will do well at another club.

    We have proof..! :)

As it involves a Spanish club a dictator like Franco would be more appropriate!! Which leads me to paraphrase an old but true story involving Alfredo di Stefano, Barcelona, Real Madrid and General Franco. It was Barcelona who brought Di Stefano to Spain and having trained with them was ready to sign for Barca until one of Franco's advisers tipped him off about how good this player was. So under a threat of incareration the Barca President had to let Di Stefano go to Real Madrid.

It was a comedy series? Thank goodness they've dropped it.
