Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes no team will be able to catch Premier League leaders Chelsea this season.

The Gunners*lost 2-1 at Swansea*on Sunday to slip 12 points behind Jose Mourinho's unbeaten side.

Chelsea have won nine of their 11 games this term and have 29 points - four more than second-place Southampton.

"If they keep that up nobody will touch them," Wenger said. "It doesn't look like anybody is capable of challenging them at the moment."

The Blues fought back from a goal down to*beat Liverpool 2-1 at Anfieldon Saturday and Wenger believes they are team full of confidence.

"Look at the season and Chelsea are on course for 105 points. Look at the number of points they have today and if they keep that up nobody will touch them, that's for sure.

"They have had a good start and as long as you don't lose you don't question yourself," the Frenchman said. "Maybe a little bit more extra spirit in the team helps them when it gets tight."

Damn he is already sounding defeatist. Very worrying for a top manager in charge of a top team to say this kind of thing. He really needs to hang his clipboard up and give way to someone who can challenge.

Media again twisting words with a misleading title.

"if they keep this up, nobody can catch them"
Haven't done the sums, but I suspect it is likely mathematically impossible if they keep going at a rate of 10 wins, 2 draws, 0 losses over 12 games.

Most likely yes. But then again we've seen bigger leads slip. As Wenger said if they continue like this nobody will catch them, but the question is can they continue like this for a whole season? But even that would require all other teams barring Southampton to get their acts together. As of now it looks like Chelsea will win the league with there being a scrap for 2nd-4th/5th.
Also keep in mind if he said we can catch Chelsea no doubt we'd be seeing articles on here about how Wenger is "deluded," "unrealistic," etc...

Sorry lads but thats just crap. Even we showe that they can be beaten and we're at the bottom of the league...

With a team like yours you have every chance of catching them..its not even december yet. i seem to remember newcastle having a 12 point lead over Man Ure many moons ago at New years..and look what happened there. The only reason you may not catch them is because your manager thinks it.

Im a massive Wenger fan, but i'd be worried if my manager spoke about the league being all but over at this stage of the season...

Good luck and i hope you (or someone else) do catch them. 1 loss and they will start to wobble. I doubt they can keep this up and have as much luck for a whole entire season <ok>

Thanks for the encouragement. Though at the moment I can only see them slipping up at Southampton but they did have trouble with the "lesser" sides last season so maybe it could haunt them again. That being said we need to sort out issues first before thinking of catching Chelsea. At the beginning of the season it was a disjointed attack but we got that. Injuries took toll and now its a lapsy defense and disorganized midfield. Now its not really those I worry about but our ability to close off games. We find that ability we did to do that from last season and we could build up a good run of steam, something we've failed to do all season.

He just shouldn't be saying the following: "If they keep that up nobody will touch them," Wenger said. "It doesn't look like anybody is capable of challenging them at the moment."

He needs to keep focused on Arsenal and stop answering questions on other teams. These kind of comments will only put doubt in the players and fans minds in my opinion. Chelsea isn't some unstoppable force, they are just playing good football compared to the rest, who have just been inconsistent. We've frankly been under par and barring Sanchez, Chambers and Welbeck, the rest have all been inconsistent or poor. Also having a depleted defence and lack of cover is exasperating the situation.

Well at least he is being realistic for once, even if Chelsea slip up, we're not catching up to them, there's no way we are making 12 points on Chelsea, to do that actually requires us to go on a proper winning run which we haven't done all season.

The title race is over, and it was over when Chelsea beat us 2-0. It's another exciting battle for top 4 for us, again.

I disagree, it was over before the season started in the players brought in, or not brought in! Fabregas being just one glaring error!

Just a nightmare when this happened. I would have got rid of some of our other players like Rosicky, Flamini, Arteta or even Cazorla (even though i like him) just to accommodate Fabs. Another mistake in a series of mistakes being made by the management.

League form - Played 11, scored 1 and assisted 9.

Nothing is certain until the Maths say so but given their team, squad, manager, brutal home record under that manger and the fact thev'e already played Cty, Utd, Pool and Everton away and taken 8 points it pretty damn likely they are going to win the league comfortably and every more likely that if they do get caught it won't be by Arsenal.

Bookies have written it off already:

Chelsea have been 1.01 shots since about 3 games in, never has a league been so utterly finished before it even began, they are in a different league to the rest of the English teams, although still absolutely no chance in Europe.

Mourinho is just so much better than any other manager of the big clubs so it's no surprise to see him this far ahead now he's got his team where he wants them. Arsenal are going nowhere under AW, Liverpool are going nowhere under Brenda, Spurs are going nowhere under Poch, City's players don't seem to care at all... the only interesting team will be United in a year or two where LVG has his team where he wants them.

Why not be impartial when Arsenal's season is over already? He's basically a mere spectator now like the rest of us.

Bit of a stupid thing for Wenger to say. Of course Chelsea are doing well, but it is only November, not even a third of the way through the season. There's a lot of football still to be played, and anything can happen.

By giving the appearance of throwing the towel in so early in the season, Wenger hasn't done himself any favours. He's under enough pressure as it is - isn't he?

Early season mind games perhaps? It puts all the focus on Chelsea and none on us. A bit like Jose tried last year to say that Chelsea were not in the title race yet clearly were. I see Jose responded by actually saying champions of autumn and that arsenal and others are all still in the race. And for one I agree with him. We are playing poorly and are 12 points behind but if we can get a run of good results and Chelsea drop some points then a lead soon goes
