This isn't so much a funny complaint as a funny story that led to a complaint... http://www.thestar.com/article/200265 (Read the text on the package) please log in to view this image
What's more pathetic is what she says in that article: Moore said she's not sure she wants the sofa set in her home. "Every time I sit on it, I'll think of that," she said.
That's not pathetic, I wouldn't want it in my house either in her situation. Sue the ****s and get a better one
The irony of the story is that the suite was made in China, most probably by people earning buttons and working in conditions in which this woman has probably never had to experience. Yes, using the N word was offensive but it's simply down to ignorance, not an attempt to insult any group of people. When she sits on her expensive suite in her nice American home maybe she should could spare a thought for the people who built the furniture. ps It wasn't that long (the 80s) that my mother used to go into a wool shop and ask for n****er-brown wool and no, she wasn't a racist!
Not really, it's just a word that can easily be removed from the label. I don't know, maybe she could try throwing the envelope in the bin? Scoring out the N word on the labels with a black biro (or blue if she wants to avoid controversy)? This has simply been blown out of all proportions. Clearly the Chinese made a mistake. People need to just let things go.
Mate the guys who built it probably have nearly zero education. The girl making the complaint is living in the richest country in the world and is able to pay to have these people build and deliver a sofa to her house. You would think she might have laughed it off. As for her saying she doesn't want it in her house? Obviously all part of compensation. I would **** her too.
If I ordered a white pillow or something of the sort and it said something similar aimed at me, I would probably be a bit shocked at first, then laugh it off and tell people, I wouldn't go to the media over it. Then I would relax on my sofa, if her life is that boring she will remember that package every time she sits on her sofa, she really needs to get out more. While racism should not be condoned, there's no need to be so silly as to say you now do not want the sofa. She's a media whore, end of story.
She would be reminded of it every time she saw/sat on the sofa. It doesn't matter how rich she is, or where she lives, or who made the sofa and their intent to offend or not. I get rid of stuff I attach negative memories to, I can understand why she would want to. (I never claimed the Chinese workers did it on purpose or even knew what they were doing, it's probably a translation mistake.)
Hmmm, the sofa's brown. Does that mean she's reminded of her ancestors slavery past every time she looks at it? Sorry Toby, but it sounds you're just being unnecessarily bellicose about the whole issue.
Why, all I said was 'I understand why she wants to get rid of it'? I can't claim to understand how she feels as I'm not black, I fully agree that the Chinese workers probably do have a worse life than her and didn't do it on purpose, but if it's true that she had to explain to her kid what it meant (IF it's true) and really is offended by that term, then I understand why she wants to get rid of it. (True, I am bored , but I only answered because matey said it was pathetic and I disagree with that )
Of course it is. Is racism only a one-way thing? It is becoming increasingly apparent that in today's society there can only be one way for racism to work so to speak.
When did I say that? Of course it can go both ways, you just seem to have a bit of a knowledge-gap... The term she is offended by was used as a racial slur against people of her colour for centuries, and still is used nowadays. The fact you couldn't even come up with a white-slur in your ****ty example proves my point. If you read through your last post and don't see the stupidity of it then please cut your scrotum off now
So abuse is more abusive if used for centuries? So if I was to use a relatively new word to offend you you wouldn't really care. Seriously Toby, you are being overly tetchy.
