Only football is capable of making even the more rational of us think and behave like unreasonable spoilt kids! When Sunderland lose I storm around the house in a right huff. As you can imagine the carpet is quite worn! Dont know why it affects us so much, i mean it is basically out of our control and in the hands of rich blokes who at times lack the passion which the supporters possess! It doesnt make sense as to why it should affect my life so much!
I didn't think it was as simple as effort today, I thought we were just really ****. Loads of misplaced passes, loads of aimless long balls to our nonexistent front line. We only have one way of attacking which is Elmo's crosses, and although the balls are good no one attacks them so it's pointless 9 times out of 10. No one can beat a man, and we never seem to be able to find an incisive pass. It's not that we don't want to pass forwards but when the defence organise we just can't find anything on. Our squad on paper is much better than last season, but we didn't play that badly at any point last season and we always looked more like scoring than we have done in the last two games.
No problems with that. I was getting pretty annoyed with the 'no striker on the pitch when we're winning' tactic but he certainly isn't lacking passion and I think its a bit early to be saying he's taken us as far as he can. Otherwise, I agree, he can't escape criticism himself... but lets be fair, he's been the best manager we've ever had/had in a long time and we should stick by him, just as we were hoping he will stick by us over the summer when we thought Southampton were interested.
Just got back. Cold, wet and a shocking performance. It reminded me of the Palace home game last season; a poor but industrious team beating us and us looking lightweight up front. We need a reaction against Spurs, just like we got in the Liverpool home game last season. We have a talented but they need to show their worth and help us get out of this rut we're in.
Exactly the same game I compared it to when describing it to relatives. Outside of effort, Burnley weren't good but deserved the win as we were so poor. Apparently the players have been told to report to training at 9am tomorrow (Sundays usually a day off I believe). There'll be good times ahead, I'm sure.
You missed the most obvious point and probably the most important one, Hernandez needs Jelavic alongside him otherwise he is useless. And more importantly we need Jelavic back ASAP, without him we have no-one who can hold the ball up. I completely disagree about passing backwards, and passing it along the back line. I am pretty certain Southampton fans didn't moan about it last week.... Passing backwards and to our keeper is not necessarily a bad thing, when you combine it with not been able to pass to each other, no movement, the midfield been useless then yes it doesn't work but you can't isolate it as a bad thing.
Yeah Hernandez needs dropping for who ?????? What aload of ****e that post was , no complaints the previous weeks , typical hull city fan
Agree on the point about Europe, still gutted myself. Otherwise, take your teacup full of sperm and get out of my life. We could not score again this season, ship in a dozen goals a game, and it would still be in our top 5 finishes ever. As it is, we're at very worst treading water, with a better squad than we've ever had that's carrying a few injuries. If you want to berate a bunch of dysfunctional primadonnas, **** off and support Arsenal or Liverpool or something.
Why is it as soon as we have a bad result or two we get a plethora of 'this team is ****'; 'something is rotten'; 'Bruce has lost it' type posts? Yeah we were dreadful yesterday by all accounts, and weren't great against Southampton. But just before that we gained excellent draws at Liverpool and Arsenal. Even the best teams go through bad runs and get bad results. Yesterday was just one match. Southampton was disappointing but they are solid and on an amazing run so maybe no great shame in losing to them. If we go through the next 3-4 matches performing just as ****, then yeah I might become a tad concerned but for now I'm just thinking of it as a bad day at the office against the bogey team that inexplicably always turns us over.
we was lucky against arsenal and Liverpool. All we can do is defend, get everybody behind the ball and hope we nick a point. We got battered by Burnley. We have nothing going forward. We don't try, there is no effort. Things look bleak.
For me it is no coincidence that since we have changed from 442 to 352 the goals have been hard to find. I have always felt we looked better going forward in a 442 formation, with Rossy at right back behind Elmo, which allows Elmo to get forward more. Now Davies is probably out, I would go back to 442 with Dawson, Chezzy, Rossy & Robertson at the back. If we are away to the top team then 352 is probably OK, and with 20 minutes to go and we are up in a game, like at NUFC, go to a 352 to see the game out.
Bruce mentioned the" just turning up and thinking we'll win " quote on Friday in an interview! So I can hardly think it wasn't mentioned in the dressing room? The players let him down simple.
*Were. Weird how nobody made that comment after we got those two results and everything looked a bit brighter. Yesterday was disappointing and a shocking performance (I was there), and people are right to ask questions of the manager and team. But, aren't some of us just getting a little bit too silly and over dramatic about this?
People comment on my timing of the this post. Inevitably there is going to be a time when I post it. There is going to be that straw that breaks the camels back moment. A few results here and there are really papering over the cracks that are starting to appear. I don't want to be in a position like when Bruce was at Sunderland and her started to lose the plot and didn't know how to change things. Like some other poster has said. All we know how to do is throw everyone behind the ball and defend. This kind of post has been brewing for a long time. It could have been posted after the majority of games towards the end of last season. It could have been posted after pretty much any game this season. If in 3 months time we are playing great football and picking up points, then I would happily create a list of how great the situation is at the time. That isn't fickle, it is just an honest assesment and opinion of the current situation. Some people on here are scared to have a neagative opinion or an opinion at all. They take some anonymous pride in sitting in the fence and casting criticism to anyone who dares have an opinion and acting self righteous. It isn't a typical knee jerk reaction of a 14 year old calling for him to be sacked. It's a list of many things that are hard to deny, some that are hard to admit and some controvertial parts that you may not agree with. But don't discard the thread or the points made because you don't agree with a few of the points in it.
I think we are caught between two stools, we now have decent offensive players but paly a cautious game, if you look at teams around us including Burnley they give it a full go, we always appears to keep it tight and try to sneak a goal. We definitely don't have the balance right in midfield, maybe one problem for me is all the signings we made have unsettled the camp, Curtis has had a pet lip since Dawson has arrived, as the original post says 'man up'. I think Brucie will ship out as many as he feels he needs to move in January, I think around 6 and maybe bring in 2.
While I'm not panicking yet, one thought that has come to mind is the stability of the dressing room, fringe player's who watch the team week after week and see certain individual's give several poor performance's, yet they seem to be untouchable when it come's to being dropped, were as some player's are dropped after a one bad game, it's only human nature that people will start to get restless if they think they are not getting a fair crack of the whip(agree that some of the fringe player's are not up to the PL but this is about human nature)just got a feeling that all maybe not right behind the scenes, and while I would never doubt SB, his remark's about "big time Charlie's "seem to bear this out. As for getting them in today at 9am for training fair do's but most of them will be gone for international duty on Monday to me just a token gesture.
