Yes they were successful, no one's disputing that. That isn't a reason to like them though, in fact, it was the way some people turned away from City a few decades ago to 'support' Leeds, and that our support still suffers from that now, is a big reason people hate them.
Or so you think! I don't think this will quite see us off, we're getting used to these now and as usual its all blown out of proportion.....
I dont mind Leeds per se, after all they're a part of the great county of Yorkshire, so one of us. What I despise is the Hull Whites.
I also saw them in the fourties/fifties era when they were managed by ex-city manager Major Busby and John Charles played for them. One of the best goals I have ever witnessed was scored at Boothferry Park by Charles. They are still pretty popular in Aus as Harry Kewell and Mark Viduka played for them. I have much respect and no dislike whatsoever for Leeds United.
I worked in Leeds for 15 years and have lots of good friends over there, i don't want fans of any club to suffer points deductions particularly Yorkshire clubs. Yes they have some tw*ttish fans but don't we all !!
It was Major Frank Buckley. My dad said that a game between City and Leeds had the best two players he ever saw on the pitch at the same time, Raich Carter and John Charles. The dislike of Leeds is down to their fans, especially the ones from Hull who decided to support them and not their own team. In particular those who drive around with an FC or Rovers sticker in their car alongside a Leeds United one. They even had one of the people who ran the FC fanzine website who had a signature of " Hull FC and Leeds United- Pride Of Yorkshire". Never seen a City fan going round with a sticker of a rugby club from another city.
Cheers. Must be getting old as I was once introduced to Major Buckley at Boothferry Park. As a City fan, over the 46 years I have been in Aus I have supported three rugby league teams and have had stickers of them on my car. Current one is Penrith Panthers as that is my local club.

I'm afraid those so called supporters , plastics, fair weather supporters, call them what you like have been and always will be around 'supporting' whichever team that takes their fancy simply because they are having a good spell, a bit like Southampton at the moment. This was never more evident than in our own fair city when our two rugby league clubs were having a successful time and City were in the dumps. I remember only too well City 'supporters suddenly start to appear, not in black and amber scarfs but black and white wtf? This all came to a head in the cup final, Hull FC v Rovers and the comment 'would the last one to leave please turn out the light' was in the papers. I stood and watched as men, women and children swarmed onto coaches bound for Wembley bedecked in black and white regelia singing Old Faithful some of these same people having stood on the terraces of Boothferry Park during the Chilton/Waggstaff era alongside me, I lost a few 'friends' during that time after that period.
That is different to someone going around in Hull with a sticker of football,club from another city in their car whilst being proud to support their local rugby team. These are Hull people who for years sneered at their local football team and actively wished for City to fail. A poster on here was in a pub on his way to City and the pub was full of Hull people supporting Liverpool who were on TV in the lunchtime game. He asked one why he didn't support his local team. He replied "I do. Rovers". Inadequates, the lot of them. I have seen rugby fans who support another football team claim, in a laughable bid to justify this despicable behaviour, that you choose to support your local rugby team but your football team chooses you. Funny how they never get chosen by the likes of Gillingham or Rochdale.
It is strange how you get an affinity with a football club. I will and always have been loyal to Hull City A.F.C ..... But I have a thing about Manchester City too for one stupid reason like it or not it has been very hard to shake off. I reckon I was 7 years old and still at primary school and my mum who knew I liked footie, So in her wisdom she bought me for Christmas one of those sports bags with a rosette printed on the side, It was a Manchester City bag (not even sky blue), this was the time when it was Colin Bell Frannie Lee etc. since then I have always liked them and wanted them to do well, So I blame my dear departed mother god rest her. I reckon it was the year after my dad took me to see City and the bond has never been broken since.
