Despite their oil billions, City lie bottom of their group in the CL and are currently struggling in the PL, even labouring to eke out a 1 - 0 win against a united team which has experienced its worst start in the PL/1st division for 28 years.

Liverpool merely need to beat Basel and Ludogorets in order to progress to the knockout stages pf the CL, having traveled to the Bernabeu, bravely coming away with a narrow defeat by the best team in the world, fielding their 'reserve' team in the process. Meanwhile, Everton top their Europa League group, having thrashed Lille last night in the process.

So is the football city of Liverpool on the rise whilst Manchester declines?
