Spurs' in Europa League action again tonight. I do so miss those Thursday night games, even though not all of them were that enjoyable. Representing England was quite an honour, football wise, and by getting to the later stages,we did them proud,I feel. Even though the tournament put a strain on playing resources,I think it was a very worthwhile adventure. Hopefully,we can get back into Europe one day.
Overall what was not to enjoy , yes we could have done better but for a lot of supporters it gave them a chance to experience European football ,it was hard on the squad but I personally enjoyed the whole experience .Hopefully the Club would have learned a few lessons , ticket prices and the freebies given away were the only downsides for me .
Loved the Europa Cup - managed to get enough cash and time to travel too. Brilliant, got to say I fell in love with Romania.
I've been to Romania. Endured a six hour stop over in Bucharest airport,en route to Bangkok. What a **** hole it was, back in Caucescu's days. Nothing was open, not even the toilets. Armed security guards outnumbered the passengers by about three to one. A passenger took a photograph through the windows of some planes parked on the runway about half a mile away, and a dozen or so guys grabbed him,led him away, and he didn't return.
That reminds me of Zagreb in the 80s although the guards on the train liked Brits but hated Germans, one treated the few Germans who were travelling like criminals. (On his way back he winked at us and just 'We still remember the war.') I stayed in Ploesti, Bucharest and Brasov. Ploiesti was quite like Swansea / Port Talbot - (without the beach) largely working class, economy based on oil, people were pleasant and helpful (didn't speak English too well either), felt safe on my own at night away from the main areas, a bus driver I spoke to had been to Cardiff (when Hagi scored hat trick v Wales) and thought it was a 'dump' no better than 'London' - he was very religious and didn't approve of the wilder side of life! It even had a Pilkington's glass and Lidls! Bucharest was a great - a proper capital - expansive. Some locals still admired Caucescu because he saved Romania from Soviet rule but most wouldn't talk about him. Very proud of Vlad and that the Top Gear Team had driven cars through the tunnels under Bucharest. Loved dogs (even the dingy ones) but had a serious problem with the Roma. Transylvania was unbelievable countryside but in the area I went to you had to have hunters to accompany you if you wanted to walk or camp in the forests!! Bears and wolves. And all as cheap as anything. (Not my idea of fun any more but anyone into skiing or snowboarding could have brilliant time there and for very little money compared to the established resorts in the west.) Perhaps I was lucky and I can see why it might not appeal to everyone but I'll definitely be going back. View attachment 34080 View attachment 34081 View attachment 34082 View attachment 34083
No, it's the back of a church and view of the hills in Sinaia, about an hour north of Pleosti. I didn't get to Bran Castle ( that's the plan for next time ) But View attachment 34085 here's a bust of Vlad from Bucharest! A national hero for ousting the Ottoman Turks. Supporting the Swans has broadened my horizons while reading this site has taught me a thing or two
Peles castle is supposed to be the prettiest in Romania, but I don't believe it belongs to Pele the footballer. http://pelescastle.blogspot.co.uk/
Looked fantastic from the outside but didn't have time to go in as I was there on the day of the game and had to get back.
I hope we qualify for europe this season, we have as much chance as anyone and thats the place to be. There is nothing better than qualifying to play the top clubs in europe...
Well,an early exit from the League Cup has certainly stymied that. So,for your hopes to come to fruition,we must win the F.A. Cup,and, or,finish in the top six. Good luck with that. I'm open to a wager that we WON'T be in Europe next season. Interested?
I agree with that Lib. Personally I'd be happy with a half decent cup run and mid table, hopefully top half.
