Is Gosden silver spoon? Towser was never seen that way. I feel Gosden may have a bit of a chip in fact it might be a great bloody plank, but I didn't see the silver spoon.

Think we all have to accept that PNkt , along with Ron and his Arab stud farm, are the only professionals on this forum; but please correct me if I'm wrong. Have never forgotten an account she gave, on the old BBC site, as to how very rude N.Henderson was to her on the telephone once. That was inexcusable, and shows he is not always a gentleman as SBC would have us believe. For me, as I said yesterday, I cannot say I dislike him from what I've seen of him, just that he always looks just a wee bit tipsy in interviews. Must say I am very surprised about Gosden, I have always liked him, along with Paul Nicholls, when interviewed. I always felt that both try to be truthful and give out as much useful information as possible for punters. Henry Ponsonby? Just another toff! <laugh>

Haha Dayo my brother said Nicky ''Tim nice but dim'' to me a few year back and I couldn't stop laughing, only when he said it did I cop on to it even though I had known him to see for years, uncanny resemblance. Wonder was he the inspiration for Harry Enfield??

Swanny, you're right: that is my reason for disliking him. As for the appearance of being tipsy, let's just say you're not imagining it ;)

Henderson does always look a little 'glassy' eyed on tv alright, so he's not always emotional sometimes he's just simply tipsy!

I think some racing personalities are better at presenting a persona in front of the camera better than others. I have heard numerous times that Frankie is not the nicest of guys once the cameras are not around and yet is almost faultless in front of it, Ryan Moore however comes across terribly at times on camera yet no one seems to have a bad word for him.

Heres one for the pot...... Micheal Stoute? I am never sure in as much as sometimes appears arrogant and self important and at others simply straight forward and even having a smile at the game of it all.

I would love a really indiscreet chat with Princess, as mentioned she will no doubt have the inside on many characters that would cause us who only rely on our TV and the racing post to raise an eyebrow. Do you have any view on Luca Cumani Princess?

Re Henderson, let's just say I once had a chat with someone at Weatherbys who had called me to check some details on one of his horses. When I gave him the bad news that needed to be related to Mr Henderson he said "Oh well, it's after midday so he'll be p****d by now!" :D

I was about to mention that i am amazed that no one has mentioned Rishi Persad yet!

I too am quite surprised that John Gosden isn't as nice and gentlemanly as he appears on camera!

One strange one is that of the Hills family. Dad Barry came across as a really horrible piece of work, gruff, rude and no time for anyone. The boys however come across well, Richard always seems a good egg and new trainer Charlie appears a nice guy also. I met Walter Swinburn at Ascot once and seemed a very affable chap.

    Never sure about Venetia Williams.

General observation: do we need to distinguish between people whose media image and schtick we find mildly irritating (Thommo and Clare, for me) and those who are genuinely unpleasant/selfish/grasping/flaky and leave the world worse than they found it ?

PN: with you entirely on Mrs Gosden. I've worked with (or, where possible, against) many lawyers during a saintly and blameless life, and she would be well towards the bottom of the ladder. As a colleague (of hers) once said to me "Let's hope she never gets hold of the effing ruby slippers".

Can I record a single vote for Charlie Egerton ? This is admittedly based on a single incident a long time ago, but I do not wish him well.

She gets very angry if you call her Mrs Gosden rainer!

I've heard nice things about Rishi, I know Claire Balding's mum quite well and she is lovely - she gave my daughter a present when she was born. Ian on the other hand is a total pervert!

Not had much to do with the Hills clan, Barry wrote me a nice card when I sent him a congratulations letter following HAAFHD's Champion Stakes win, and I briefly spoke with Richard once. Of the new intake of young trainers, I can vouch that Olly Stevens and Charlie Fellowes are lovely.

If you look up the word ‘gentleman’ in the dictionary then underneath you will see a picture of Mr Henderson. Further proof of this is his reaction to narrow defeat in this year’s Champion Hurdle. Rather than bemoan the result or mutter that if THAT saddle monkey had chosen Jetski rather than My Tent then the result would have been oh so different he instead opted to kiss and hug the winning trainer, his good pal, Mrs Harrington, as the old boy offered his congratulations. I’d wager that this warm embrace meant more to Mrs Harrington than actually training the winner.

Cor blimey though I’m amazed that this thread has more than past the half century mark and no-one has mentioned Simon Crisford a man who for most of this century took ‘toadying’ to unparalleled levels. Meanwhile, his impression of Manuel from ‘Fawlty Towers’ as he cried, ‘I know nothing’ after the Al-Zarooni ‘incident’ fooled nobody. Does though hold the world record for the number of times anyone has said ‘Sheikh Mohammed’ in one sentance – 17.

Cor blimey, SBC (erm, are you really an Arsenal fan?), know you are only joking, but, quite honestly, my Concise Oxford doesn't have any pictures in it. As for Mrs. Harrington, shouldn't we ask her if she was overwhelmed and warm-all-over with this embrace, and that it meant more to her than training the winner? I honestly doubt that. Was sporting of the old geezer, must admit..........

Never met her Cyc, so can't comment. Matt is supposed to be nice, though I've heard he's starting to become a bit of an arse.

Just remembered another one for the list: John Warren. He must be the most hated man in racing, I've never met anyone who has a good word to say about him! Yes he has a good eye for horses but he is consistently rude to people, particularly sales workers. When he relocated his office from Newmarket to Highclere his PA, who had worked for him for 15 years, decided to stay here. In the 2 years that followed he went through 6 PAs as no one could stand to work for him for any length of time!

.......and Lee Freedman, Cyc? Wish I had heard that 'conversation' between them that you referred to recently! Do you have a clip? Sorry, getting myself all mixed-up here! <doh>
