Where's the ginger Pirlo? Surely Jack should be in there with the form he's displaying for them up the road. or, maybe not.
Both have justified their selections this season imo. Overall, it's not a bad squad based on form of players currently, although I'm not sure what Lambert, Walcott, Carrick or Smalling have done to earn a place. And how the **** Andros Townsend keeps getting in there is utterly beyond me.
Townsend is strange. He looked unplayable when he made his England debut, got injured and now struggles to get a game for Spurs. In fact, is he injured again? God knows <shrugs shoulders>
To early for Walcott the others lambert there is better, carrick that's a joke init and Townsend he can't get a game for Spurs right off form omg
Beckham could get a game !. Pity Johnson was not in form at the minute I hope he plays on sunday. Berahino is the best out of those strikers at the minute.
I'm like Billy - couldn't give a toss about England. I was a big fan in Venables day - Gazza, Shearer, Adams &co. But there were two nails in the coffin for me. Gazza had been the heart and soul of that dressing room for eight long years. If Hoddle was going to drop him, he should have done it six months before or six months after a World Cup. To do it ten days before was lunacy. I can't imagine the effect that had on squad morale. And the final nail in the coffin was when Defoe (with 14 goals) and Crouch (with 9 goals) i.e. 23 between them, went to South Africa and Bent with 24 was left at home. I never forgave Capello for that, and I think it played a big part in Bent opting to leave Sunderland. It must have broken the lad's heart. It'll take another Gascoigne to get me back now. And we don't produce Gazzas very often.
I can think of a couple of reasons why Carrick's in there, he's the only deep lying playmaker in that squad, the rest of them are all pretty much attack-minded midfielders. Also he's one of the more experienced in the squad, winning 1-0 he's the type to bring on to shut up shop with 10 mins to go. I have no idea how Smalling made it in there to be honest, he really shouldn't be an option. Be interesting to see if Hodgson's found his bollocks yet, Shaw has been far superior to Baines this season, let's see if he sticks with the media darling scruffy scouser. That entire squad is incredibly depressing.
Take more than that for me - it'll take, as Terry says, an England manager with bollocks would be nice. With the balls to [pick a player on form rather than reputation. Baines has been poor this season and Shaw has looked decent. Carrick - I understand what Terry says about the reasons for taking him but he's hardly played a game this season - Townsend the same. In 10 games at the end of last year and beginning of this (2013/14) Adam Johnson was the best winger in this country - comfortably - yet Andros Townsend got picked ahead of him with 1 goal and 2 assists. Johnson's form dipped massively after that England squad. Andy Carroll will probably be picked for the next round of games even if he scores none all season. This is why I shout for the opposition when England play - simply so I can tell Roy Hodgson he's a twat. Cattermole was better than Delph and Shelvey at the announcements of both the previous squads - yet he didn't even get a look in (hasn;t been fantastic recently - did OK on Monday against Palace but nothing like most of his previous games) There is no way that England will interest me unless they start picking form players instead of randoms and "Oh he plays for a big club". How many league goals has Ricky Lambert got this season? Less than Connor Wickham (and Lee Cattermole for that matter!) - and, by no means do I think Wickham should be playing but neither should Lambert.
I don't think Carrick will get a game to be honest mate, I think he's more there for the training. The squad is quite big, 27 players, so there's gonna be a fair few not even making the bench. Out of that lot I'd start the following 11: Forster, Clyne, Cahill, Jagielka, Shaw, Milner, Chamberlain, Barkley, Henderson, Berahino and Welbeck. That's more or less players who have played well enough to get the spot, minus Rooney who I just don't want to get injured, although he will play. We all know Roy's favourites will start the game.
