Matt Tubbs and Lee Hughes Possible New Signings Darrell Clarke has made enquiries about experienced campaigners Matt Tubbs and Lee Hughes in an ongoing bid to bolster his strikeforce, the Bristol Post understands. Clarke is understood to see Tubbs, 30, who played alongside Clarke during a spell at Salisbury earlier in his career, and Hughes, 38, as having the qualities to add some goals to a squad that is set to lose the services of Adam Cunnington when he returns to Cambridge United later this month. The Bristol Post has been told that Bournemouth, who Tubbs is contracted to, and Forest Green Rovers, who have Hughes on their books, have both been sounded out by Rovers regarding the availability of both players Any potential deal for Tubbs, however, is unlikely to happen until January at the earliest as the striker is on loan at AFC Wimbledon. He has scored nine goals in 18 appearances since arriving at Kingsmeadow and is scheduled to remain until the end of the season. However, discussing his future in an interview with media outlet Get West London earlier this month, he said: "It's not for me to decide. I'd like to have a few options. I've not got that yet. Come Christmas time, hopefully there will be some decisions to be made." Hughes, who has scored six times in 13 appearances this season, has not started a match for Forest Green since October 7,losing out to a strike partnership of Jon Parkin and Luke Rodgers â but manager Ady Pennock is believed to be undecided as to whether or not to sanction a loan move. Clarke, meanwhile, revealed last week that he still has some money available in his budget, but when asked about progress on the transfer front a few days ago, he replied: "I've been in for players, but it is difficult to get the right people in at this time of the season. "I'm still working on things and I will make sure that the player we get will be the type that we need and I am prepared to wait a little bit of time for that."
Seamge, get rid of my thread mate, I didnt realise you had done the thread. You must have posted it as I was starting mine
Tubbs yes please. Hughes, no thanks. Not for me. Yes he done his time etc but I dont want to see him in a Gas shirt.
Tubbs would be great. Apparently Hughes is a pretty bad character even if he does get a few goals and he's over the hill.
Its strange though that these names have gone out in the open. That doesnt normally happen. Also I cant see us being the only team after Tubbs. Surely a football league side will be after him. Promoting the idea of signing him in public which attract more clubs looking his direction. I dont think we should wait until Jan and hope he chooses us. I think we should still try and get a goal scorer in asap. Tubbs though would be a cracking signing for this league!
BBC has asked DC about the reports from the Post regarding Tubbs and Hughes and DC said: "I know Tubbs - I played with him at Salisbury and I tried to sign him in the summer. They're both very good players and I'm interested in good strikers. Those two certainly fit the mould." From bottom half of this BBC article http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/29934682
Hughes definitely not would be a bad apple in our team. He committed an horrendous offence and has show very little remorse for it. Seen at Cheltenham Races bragging about all of the money he earns after coming out of prison. Tubbs YES PLEASE.
Tweets from James Mcnamara following his press meeting with DC.... "Just to add: I thought Tubbs was a loan, but after hearing DC this morning I'd suspect that he's looking at a permanent in Jan." https://twitter.com/JPMcnamara7/status/530356732053434368 "On Hughes, I think that may have been stop gap, but I'd be surprised if it goes any further than the enquiry stage in all honesty." https://twitter.com/JPMcnamara7/status/530356732053434368
FGR have issued a 'hands-off Lee Hughes' warning to Vanarama Conference rivals Bristol Rovers. A FGR spokesperson told the Stroud News and Journal: "We're aware of their interest and have already told them it's not going to happen, end of." http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/Forest...es-departure/story-24314298-detail/story.html
Thank f&ck The Famous FGR have declined to let us have Mr Porridge . End of is the best thing that can happen to this W^nker ! Rovers have had enough wasters over recent years (and before) we dont need any more !
Spot on. I'd rather have Hitler paired with Stalin up front than that murderous ****er anywhere near Bristol Rovers.
I'm not too keen on having Hughes here, he might remember me shouting abuse at him when we played Oldham a few years ago.
At FGR in August I was stood on that open terrace on the rain. There was a middle-aged Gashead stood directly in front of me that bellowed (and I mean bellowed) 'Murderer - Hughes you dirty ****ing murderer!' the entire game. On occasions it was at a range of about 5 feet! Bloody hilarious! Was it you?
Not me that time. I abused the killer from the Uplands terrace about 5 seasons ago I think. We won 2-0 and Sir Rickie scored a screamer from about 35 yards.
