The American education system is significantly inferior to the education systems in Western Europe, so I highly doubt it.

Actually, Stehen King is a damn fine story teller. His themes are crap, but he's at his best when he goes off at a tangent telling sub-stories to the actual theme.

Also "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption" is a particularly fine piece of story telling, as is "The Ballad of the Rubber Bullet"

This is true. They turn out idiots aged 21 when we turn out idiots aged 16 or 18.

    Almost, Mick.

As I remember it, "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption", "The Mist", "The Breathing Method" and another one that escapes me right now but was about the school kid who meets a Nazi in hiding (which was also made into a movie) were all published in a single volume called "Different Seasons"

"The Running Man" was published under a Stephen King pseudonym. As it should, cos it's pish.

No idea where or when "The Body" was published.

Neither can I recall where or when "The Ballad of the Rubber Bullet" was published.

But I believe both of them were part of a short story collection not necessarily by King exclusively.

    ^^^^

Yeah,"Different Seasons" seems to ring a bell but I read them a long time ago so hazy on facts.Regarding "Rita Hayworth etc" I read it years before it became a film and while watching it started to remember it and knew the ending<grr>

Stand By Me was a good film though. Admittedly, I was probably younger than 18 when I watched it. Was that not one of his? Think it was called The Body?
