#bbcsalford have embarrassed themselves Their Man Utd lose and it's a massive article on how they almost got a draw Liverpool lose and it's 4 separate articles on how Brendan is horrible, Liverpool is horrible, etc.
Funny thing is, if someone like Mourinho went to the Bernabeu and played the same style, he would be lauded as a tactical genius.
The nice thing about a Tuesday game is city will flop potentially and end up giving more headlines so by Saturday all you need endure is wall to wall repeats of sloppy g and 2-0 That'll be nice
Yes. but that's because he would not have declared in advance he was "resting players" and "prioritising matches". He would have expected the outcome whereas BR seemed to have been amazed by the 1-0 result.
Only if that amounts to a positive result. It didn't last year in the C. semi v A Madrid and some criticised him for not going for an away goal in Madrid. Football is a results business and any kind of loss last night is a bad result cos you badly need the points. So to go into the game potentially resting players for the weekend could be construed as almost giving up on the C.L this year. Personally I think he's taking a gamble that he'll get a good result/performance against us and scrape through the group winning the last 2 games. Such gambles and decisions perhaps indicate he's feeling the pressure this year though....
I think Sterling's the only one you can make a strong case for saying they were rested rather than dropped. The press are just upset because Gerrard, one of their darlings, was dropped and they're having a dig at Rodgers for it because he's a bit vulnerable at the moment. Rodgers tried playing what would be considered your first team in the first leg and you got humped(as most teams would) so he changed it and got it right. You're always going to need a bit of luck or something special to get a result away against this current Real side but so long as you're in the game there's a chance. Last night you were in it until the full time whistle, a huge improvement on going 3 down in the first half at home. I can't see why the journalists see it as any different. On the plus side at least they haven't rounded on all your signings, calling them flops and criticising you for not keeping your best player, as they did with us last season. Best thing you can do is ignore the media but it's not easy because what they say clearly does influence on a lot of fans.
Annoyingly in the last few weeks, I seem to find Gerrez has already posted what I was going to post when it comes to team selections. At least someone here is watching the same team and players that I'm doing... We all know Rodgers bullshits his way through interviews. He says one thing, then says something else later. Why are people still surprised when he says he might rest players, then, when he accidentally stumbles upon the team most of us would rather he played and the team plays well, he backtracks and suggests it was all a genius case of dropping players and rotating? He's full of **** in the media, but sometimes gets it right on the pitch which is more important - which is why I rarely listen to him.
Tiredness permittting, I'd stick with the team that played last night except Sterling in for Markovic and Hendo in for Allen, so much like what Gerrez and TGOA are thinking. (#copycat). Bring Coutinho on later. Can really see Gerrard starting though, because a) he's Gerrard and b) Brendan might be telling him to make amends for his slip. BTW we've still only scored one goal in open play in the CL this season, in four games. I guess Mario's good for something, eh?
Thing is we were playing Madrid, if we were away to Basel and dropped our big names then he deserves criticm, what he's done is given our squad players a big occasion to see if they either sink or swim, and they swam tbh.
Just read McNutty's piece on the beeb about last night's game. It never ceases to amaze me the amount of unfounded speculation journos will engage in to try and create a story.
