At this very moment I would suggest that he's better than Jay. I'd take £15M + Kane, for Jay. That would be a traditional Spurs transfer deal [money and make-weight]. Spurs get a player who may never get back to his potential best. In return Saints get a player who, by all accounts, is going to have a very big career indeed. In two months time, with Jay back, fit and raring to go, with perhaps no sign of him wanting to be the last player in the exodus [he'd be an absolute prized fool to leave this club at the present time], and showing all the signs that he is free from his injury, Spurs could keep their player and money. These things are fluid and they have their time.
Players become good once they are sprinkled with Saints' stardust....then we sell to unsuspecting teams for massive wonga. We could do that with Kane.
Nor do I, but if you believe all the tripe surrounding Jay, they were willing to do a deal upto only a short time ago, according to newspaper rubbish.
Me too, only young and time to improve, and as Fran says, we have a habit of improving players. Pelle would be a great player to learn from as well.
What evidence do you have for this? All I'm seeing is a young player scoring goals. Doesn't seem too bad to me.
The following: 1) Spurs never fancied him. Hence the loans. 2) Saw him play against us for Milwall and he certainly didn't have a great touch. His next loan at Norwich ended because he couldn't get near their first team. 3) MoPo doesn't fancy him even though he's a player very much in his mould. 4) Goal ratio is less than 1 in 4 even though he's always been an out and out striker That's my evidence. Not to say he won't turn into a good player but he's nowhere near the heights J-rod reached last year, he doesn't have his strength, athleticism, pace, physique or anything that really sets J-rod apart. He is good at scoring goals against Cypriot mid-table teams though, I'll give you that
1. Jack Cork/Ryan Bertrand/Lukaku ...ring any bells 2. ****, he let you down in a game you saw him play. Pelle had a very poor touch against WBA 3. MoPo doesn't fancy him getting in the team and doing well, because he fancies JayRod 4. JayRod again ....strike rate in first Premier League Season???
1. Lukaku always had the physique and international pedigree. Other 2 are completely different. Cork was signed by us in the championship, not when we were 2nd in the EPL and Bertrand has been loaned to 2 good EPL clubs, not average championship ones like Kane. 2. He didn't set the championship alight in any other game either. I also suspect I've seen him play live more than you (unless you were at Millwall away). I never got on Pelle's back after WBA because I wanted to see more of him. I've seen plenty of Kane since. 3. Because Jrod's better 4. Jrod displayed attributes that Kane doesn't have as I mentioned in my previous post. He has a Bale-like physique and a frightening turn of pace for a big man as well as having natural strength and incredible fitness. Please don't tell me you'd rather have a fully fit Kane than a fully fit Jrod? I feel people have been embittered towards him through unsubstantiated rumours. Remember his performances against Liverpool and Chelsea 18 months ago. This guy has so much talent and ticks so many of the boxes for a great centre forward (or a wide forward)
I'd rather have a fully fit Jayrod, but I am just trying to underline the ignorance of writing off a young player you have seen live once and your reasons for saying he is s**t. I hoped you may see that just saying Jayrod is better than Kane is ok, bit saying Kane is s**t based on your 4 reasons is incredibly naïve. I'll re-word my 4 points less sarcastically and from a different angle: 1. Hundreds of players go on loan when they are younger and don't set the place a light. 2. You are judging a player on one live game and a few on tv? seriously? 3. Jayrod is older/different/more experienced. How good was Jay after 4 (or whatever) Premier League games at 20/21 (he was only in Championship then) 4. Kane is young enough to build that physique. The difference in Jay's physique today from the day he signed for us is huge. My point is this: you wrote a player off with three words. This told me more about you than it did Harry Kane. For the record, I can't comment on Harry Kane as I have seen him "live" at one game and only snippets on TV. I wouldn't use that to judge a player (like you with Pelle) Another for the record. If you looked back through this forum form our first PL season, you won't find a bigger defender of Jayrod than me. Always believed in him. Funnily enough, you'd find a lot of people moaning about him they way you have moaned about Kane.
