Missed opportunity by us. Madrid was really ordinary. We could have had something from this game if Rodgers had played sterling and coutinho. FFS what was he thinking about?

It would have given us a massive lift if we had taken one point from the game. It was not mission impossible. Why did we give them the message we were not good enough?

I know Toure was 1/4 yard too slow to cut out that cross but he was immense tonight I thought.

Happy with that performance, everyone put a shift in and its given BR some things to consider.

One thing that does bug me is allen playing to far forward,he just does not have the creativity to play the position. Thought he
    was below average tonight.

Overall a disappointing result, but some heartening individual performances.

Any criticism of Rodgers selections tonight is misplaced IMO

Wake up son. Where have all the wins been when they have played then?

  7. He played very well tonight but there were two free kicks he should have caught but chose to punch

  8. I'd go with this. Use Coutinho from the bench where he's best.

Not entirely true. Whilst the team selection was correct, I am almost certain that the team was picked on the basis of resting players ahead of Chelsea, not for any particular formation, system, style or tactical purpose. We played well tonight, not because we had fantastic players on the pitch, but because we had a team of fantastic workers who ran, pressed and passed the ball short - basically like last year, but without the flair up top. No Johnson screwups, laziness or wasted possession, no trundling Gerrard with hollywood balls and no Balotelli to stand still and not pester their defense. Frankly, I'm not surprised by our performance. I said at the start that we'd play well with a mobile team of workers and we did, despite all the negativity and naysayers calling for our slaughter.

His team selection worked by chance - but, in all fairness, it was one many of us would have come close to picking if we were in charge. That's a big worry imo.

  10. You sound like the pundits <doh>

We've not been good enough all season bar the Spurs game and this as been out best performance other than that game.

Why not mix it up? We have decisions to make now

He did punch wide though so can't complain too much. Those free kicks from Ronaldo and Bale do swerve as well so safety first I guess.

Thought Can was very good today. Te midfield 3 played it to each other, moved for each other and formed little triangles. No one tried 50 yard passes and gave the ball away.

Got to disagree - Baloteli does **** all work so hardly needs a rest for the next game. It worked (well nearly) because he picked a team that complimented each other - hopefully it does open his eyes up a bit i.e play manquillo cos he is class, Lucas hasn't completely lost it etc etc. we'll see come the weekend

  13. It is harsh but when they go directly at the keeper they should be catching them. Can't decide between Migs, Lucas & Moreno for my MOTM though

Catch and he could drop em in front. Safety first ain't bad and is first thing to do when you are taught as a kid

You can't be serious thinking that this team was deliberately picked to combat Real? Lucas hasn't had a look in all season, Borini out of favour until a few days ago, Henderson on the bench, Skrtel as captain, Toure starting despite Lovren playing every minute of every game all season, Gerrard on the bench similarly having played every minute and undroppable despite poor performances, Markovic starting and playing most of the game, Sterling on the bench...they all demonstrate that Rodgers knew we'd lose, rested who he thought were our key players and gave a run out to the fringe players.

It worked (as you correctly said) because they complimented eachother through simple workrate, running and short passes. Again, some of us ( not the negative nellys who said we'd get hammered pre-game when the team was announced <doh>) would have picked a similar team to play, but for very different reasons to Rodgers.

A little mention to markovic as well. I know he's flavour of the month for scape goat but I thought he played quite well tonight, made some wrong decisions to of course, but we were playing arguably the best club on earth away from home so harsh to be too critical

All you lads must must consider if you think that way all Madrid could give or if they had a bit in thier pocket if we did score and equaliser.... Start there then assess us

We did ok. Showed a bit of bottle and will. That's a good thing. We rode our luck big time on quite a few occasion

But can't you also see that it might be difficult to tell whether they are being rested or ****ing taught a lesson after the Newcastle shambles?

    Who knows

the thing that bothers me is that we only had 1 shot on target the entire game 1 fecking shot!!! that aint good enough at this level.
