Another site directed my attention to this examination of Rodgers' spending history at Liverpool: http://www.lfchistory.net/Transfers/ByManager/25-1 Good value for money?
Given how we kept hearing about Gerrard's "loyalty" last season (which conveniently forgot he was prepared to ditch the club for Chelsea ten years ago, and was happy to go on trial at Man Utd as a kid), it is quite amusing to see him demanding a new contract or he'll take his ball play for someone else.
"Rodgers out? Real Madrid and Chelsea up next. Needs to do something in those games" They'll need to keep the Madrid defeat down to 2-0 at worst, 11 vs 11 or 10 vs 11.
Good news, lads! Rodgers is telling the press that he wants Slippy G to stay at 'Pool. This was the club's ideal opportunity to off-load him, but it looks like the Mousers are going to be undone by their own silly sentimentality. I reckon Slippy has about 2 seasons left in him before he is completely shot, which means 'Pool are going nowhere any time soon.
...and therein lies the problem for 'Pool. If they lost 0-3 to Real on their own turf, just what kind of humiliating hammering are we to expect in Madrid's own backyard. I heard Stevie Nichol say, on TalkShite last night, that he was genuinely worried for 'Pool against Real.
"In good news for Liverpool fans, Bale is back in training for the midweek game." They'll at least get to play 2/11ths of the Spurs side who made this very article credible for (at least) 4 seasons. Won't that be nice for them.
Madrid to win by 5+ goals is 8/1 apparently. Unlike last time no El Clasico following so no need for Madrid to play the first hour in 2nd gear and the last half hour in 1st. If Liverpool aren't careful they face total humiliation out there. Even Wenger would change his approach and be more pragmatic v a superior side but not so sure Rodgers will.
Rodgers will probably play 15 defenders.....and still lose! Best Real team I can recall for many moons.Modric definitely the engine room......and just imagine,Jose didn't like playing him!!!!
"If Liverpool aren't careful they face total humiliation out there." No shame in parking the bus for this one. They need to keep the GD down because it may come to that for 2nd place. Ludo away are not going to be easy, and if a vaguely motivated Basel turn up at Anfield for a game that is must win for the Poool, things will be interesting.
There isn't a single team that will go to Anfield this season and not fancy their chances of taking at least a point, last season the mentality was just keeping the scoreline down. I'd imagine Basel will approach the game with that mentality. Had Basel won in Ludo, Liverpool's chances of qualifying would be on life support.
11 straight wins scoring 46 goals 940 days since last failing to score at home Ronaldo 78 shots, 20 goals; Balotelli 45 shots, 1 goal Good luck tonight!
No it wont, it's head to head that counts and they won't be going head to head with Real. So they can get smashed 10-0 tonight and effectively the same as a 1-0 except we'll all enjoy it more
What it's possible that Real and Liverpool finish on the same points or possible that Liverpool plus one of the others can't be separated by head to head and then head to head goal diff? The first is not remotely likely and the second is a very distant possibility. Liverpool's main concern is not getting battered for morale reasons more than Goal Diff IMO.
